I know what the hell retail is. My moms side is basically alive by retail, so when they tell me something like that is stupid, then im running with it. That is the end of this.

I don't know how I feel about spending that kind of dough to attract a grocery store. I can understand the logic, but it seems like a lot of money.

yeah that one is allright, only been to it once, are we getting a Home Depot over there?

That's the plan. Land clearance for Home Depot on US 220 has started and I expect that it will be up and open for busienss by the end of the year.

wow thats pretty gully to do, with Lowes across the intersection.

In most towns, they locate across the street from each other anyway. The ones in Northwest Roanoke are only about 3/4 mile apart. The Christinasburg stores are about a 1/2 mile apart.

Lowe's and Home Depot don't kill each other off generally. Most people cross-shop between the two, so putting them close by makes it more convenient, which potentially means better sales for both.

Really? well that makes some sense, I wish Roanoke would build its car dealerships on the outskirts of town near each other and i think that would help to.

It's doubtful. Magic City just rebuilt their dealership. Berglund isn't planning to move anything but their new Chrysler dealership (formerly Fulton Motor Co.). Then again, when that does move, it will open up a prime retail site right next to Ivy Market.

yeah that area around ivy market has a lot of dearlerships.

If and when Fulton/Berglund moves out, that site will turn over to higher-level retail.

I think what Roanoke could really use is a high-end kitchen store like Williams-Sonoma or Sur La Table. I'm amazed at the items I've had to buy here in Richmond for some of my family because they can't find them anywhere in Roanoke.

Yeah, stuff like that, I think we need stores that arent Wal-martish but like Sur La Table. What about you?

I think we could handle a Williams-Sonoma. It would save me the trip to Greensboro.
