Thanks, I knew it was some sort of farm supply store but since I never actually shopped there couldn't remember exactly.

Not sure if it's been reported yet, but it looks like Valley View Mall will be getting a full line Aveda Spa come Winter 08 in the District at Valley View. I was on my way out to Panera the other day and noticed that the banner had been hung announcing its opening.

I was very excited to finally see something new and exciting and slightly more upscale in Roanoke. I do however still find it humorous that we can somehow land an Aveda Spa, but can't bring in a Body Shop, Banana Republic, or J.Crew. Three stores that would CERTAINLY thrive in Roanoke!!

Has anyone else heard any other news for stores coming to the District at Valley View? I never imagined it would take this long to land tenants!

I've heard some things on a possible in-mall tenant, but nothing in the District.

Is okay to ask what this in-mall tenant caters to? Teens, young adults, etc....

Downtown will soon have a new grocery store. 7 to 7 Grocery should open next week, next door to the Hancock building and its future 58 apartments. The store is 2,200 sq feet, so it won't have a huge selection, but its better than the slim pickings currently available. full story

Quality Farm & Fleet/CT Farm Supply closed in 2000. They had their going out of business sale the same week that Wacamaw (sic) and Phar Mor did. That was pre-9/11!

I haven't been posting here much for a while, but I had to mention this. The new Wal-Mart Superstore off 220 in the Clearbrook area of Roanoke County is now toast. Wal-Mart has instead renewed the lease on its current site in the city about 1 mile north. The proposed new store had already been approved by the county and the cancellation apparently has more to do with national economic conditions.

Ukrops isn't doing too well in Roanoke.

Bye, bye Ukrop's. It will shutter its Roanoke store on October 24th.

So sad. It was a beautiful store that never caught on with Roanokers. The sad part is that they finally got the Walgreens open to compliment it just this past month. :-(

I figure we'll get another Kroger in its place.

Oh no! I knew some of the Ukrop children through school and otherwise (far away from VA) and they are terrific people! Sad.
