“Boarded up” or not, a bunch of empty storefronts on one of your main thoroughfares is never a good thing, which is @EJ_LEWIS point.

I just don't understand getting so upset about some late night drinking holes closing up whilst simultaneously, at least outwardly, not being all that bothered by, nor intellectually curious about, the FACTS surrounding the how and the why of HR having been burdened, perennially, with debilitating structural issues within her economy which have caused her to lag behind and to lose vast amounts of ground, economically and in all facets thereof, when compared to very nearly every single one of her (former) peer regions ...within 2000 freaking miles.  And I'm not singling you out, per se. I'm speaking to the rose-colored glasses, Chamber types who do frequent this board.

So you're saying empty store fronts are good?

oh sure. yeah. reduced noise pollution and collective carbon footprint. sidewalks all to myself. unfettered use of acres upon acres of storefront glass to better primp and preen sans worrying about who’s staring back at me from the other side. for starters. yep. you guessed it.

Here's a brief article on the new restaurant that took over the former location of Red Dog on Colley, it's a chain spot called Tacos Y Tequila. The article also notes that YNot and Off The Hook on Colley recently closed:

Give it a month before you go.  Still working out service and supply issues.

Not the location this forum was hoping for a new Target. The former Kroger at Wards Corner is being considered and has been in discussions for around two years. If this becomes a reality, I hope Kotarides pays the Vice Mayor a finders fee

It appears this is moving forward. Both addresses are included in an agenda item at the July planning meeting.

You can now add Chili's to another restaurant closing in Norfolk and MacArtur Mall.

I'm tired of bad news. My old hangout when I could walk there and get right in at the bar area.

So is there anything left in the food court now? I haven't been on the 3rd floor in years, and was just talking about the MacArthur Chili's the other day.

According to the directory online, Aunt Dorian’s, Sakura, Sbarro, and Johnny Rockets.

Legacy closes for good.

https://www.pilotonline.com/2023/06/26/legacy-restaurant-and-lounge-closes-in-norfolk-after-city-nightlife-crackdown/

"Following a shooting and an extended crackdown of downtown nightclubs, Legacy Restaurant and Lounge is leaving the city.

Nightclub owners Alex Stokes and Warren Salvodon have decided to close the business, at 216 E. Plume St. across from Selden Market, spokesperson Marcus Calabrese told The Virginian-Pilot on Monday."

Didn’t read the WTKR article but the WAVY article leads you to believe it’s the first step of closing the location. Unofficial plans are to close the top two floors with WAVY’s go to retail expert saying that’s common for them before closing. Another unnamed source from the city saying the city and Dillards are negotiating a sale.

I worked downtown at 2 commercial place in the mid 2000's and we would get off work and party on Granby St. all night. Time Lounge, Quixx, JewMa, Baxters, Palace on Plume etc etc. I was glad to have been there in that space and time to have those memories because it's gone now
