Does anybody know what they are building on gordon hwy right before barton chapel crosses it. Its beside like a lounge or bar. I might have to take a pic one day

What about the 3 areas off peach orchard goings towards butler high or further down peach orchard. One of them was shape kind of funny like the t-mobile building. The exterior was diffrent, didn't they say a fireman training center of something was going to be off peach orchard.

Solvay Advanced Polymers is investing more than $100 million to boost the production of its plastic polymer resins at its two U.S. plants, one at 3702 Clanton Road in south Augusta. The Belgium-based parent company said.

More jobs for the southside

Southern Ionics recently purchased nearly 9 acres of land off Lumpkin Road near Doug Barnard Parkway. The plant would manufacture chemicals to make ammonium hydroxide solutions, and store other types of chemicals on-site. Southern Ionics promises good things for the Two-State when it relocates

Augusta Tissue mill to grow

A Dallas-based company that acquired a south Augusta tissue paper mill said it is planing a multimillion-dollar expansion that could create more jobs. The plans are to add another production line in early 2009. "We'll be roughly doubling the size of our plant," Mr. Striplin said. "It would be well in excess of $20 million." The expansion will also double production at the tissue mill, and eventually create more jobs, he said.

The 79,000-square-foot expansion would be in addition to the 18-acre property's existing 200,000- and 29,000-square-foot buildings.

More and more high-priced neighborhoods are being built in south Augusta.

Some people now want to form a South Augusta Development Authority. To market the area to developers.

''David Moretz, a commercial realty agent for Rex Property & Construction Management in Augusta, said developers and restaurateurs, when deciding where to locate, look at average household incomes, traffic counts and how existing businesses are performing. The consistently-packed Applebee's could bode well for south Augusta, he said.''

How far do I want to drive?

It's one many south Augusta residents ask themselves because of the dearth of retail and restaurant options in the city's fastest-growing area. 110,000 people who live in south Augusta

''Mr. Sias' proposed development authority would cover all the territory south of Gordon Highway and the Belair Road area west of Bobby Jones Expressway. The estimated average household income in that area is $43,499, according to DemographicsNow. In comparison, the average household income in the areas where most new retail is steering is $65,484 in west Augusta and $77,439 in Columbia County.''

There are pockets of greater affluence in south Augusta, though. The census tract that includes Willis Foreman Road and Diamond Lakes Regional Park has an estimated average household income of $50,092, and it's estimated at $49,890 for the tract that includes Meadowbrook Drive.

''Gayla Moore, a vice president with Meybohm Realtors Now, homes rival those in Columbia County, she said, noting that homes in one new subdivision, the Lakes at Spirit Creek, run in the upper-$200,000s to $300,000 range.''

Augusta Mini Theatre grows with new facility

The new site is more than two-thirds complete. In mid-October, Mr. Butler plans to open the doors of the school at 2548 Deans Bridge Road. It will provide instruction in art, dance, drama and music.

Augusta Mini Theatre Inc.'s new headquarters will be at 2548 Deans Bridge Road.

Plant Vogtle expansion sought

Major growth about to occur in south augusta/burke county

Southern Co. announced today that it has filed a federal application to build and operate two new nuclear reactors at the Alvin W. Vogtle Electric Generating Plant.

The addition of two new reactors would create thousands of temporary construction jobs and double the plant's full-time employment to nearly 1,800.

Rumor Mill: There's a rumor going around that a new shopping center is coming to South Augusta on Highway 56 that will include a Super Walmart and a Home Depot. Again this is just a rumor. What does everyonne think about this?

New tire facility in Augusta.

The project will result in 30 new jobs and an investment of more than $4 million.

Construction will be immediately on the new facility which will be located near the intersection of Gordon Highway and Bobby Jones Expressway (Interstate 520) on Noland Drive in south Augusta.

The company considered consolidating the business near Columbia but says they choose to stay in Augusta because of the workforce and transportation system.
