LOL, when I first saw pictures of that building I thought "good, they put potted trees on the roof... oh wait, that's abandoned and they're growing out of the roof."

For aesthetic and environmental reasons, I think roofs should be more gardeny. If I was rehabing the building, I'd replant the trees in pots and put them back up there!

I think it's kinda cool when they, eh, transit enable ( ) the lots, but that's supposed to be a public space, and I think driving or walking through there would be feel like going through private space. I think the design is artificial looking, but it's better than what most casinos would do there.

Kinda the story in the News said they want to know if the deal includes air rights. They also want a guarantee the casino will allow the general public access

I'm confused. Who wants to know if the deal includes air rights? The city or the casino? It's good they are delaying the vote for a few more days to really work this out. The city has made hasty deals before that it now regrets.

The city

Some council members insisted on written legal opinions before voting on the sale. They also want to know if the purchase price includes air rights where the gaming facility will be expanded over East Lafayette and where the enclosed tunnel will cross Monroe Street from the parking structure/hotel to the casino. Air rights give a developer the right to use the space above a property.

The council also wants a written, enforceable agreement with the casino owners that access to the parking structure will be provided for the general public visiting the Greektown area.

I'm a bit confused why they are tied up in the air rights. I can't imagine the city wanting to built anything over the tunnel, but I guess maybe they are thinking much further into the future than I am.

As for the second part, I am glad they want to write in an enforcable agreement that grants access to the general public. Deals done in "good faith" with corporations often come back to municipalities in the butt.

It's not going block Lafayette that's why it said OVER the street.

I'm so tired of renderings that look like this. Give the client what they effing want, the real building, under real light. That way we know if looks like crap or not. I promise I will never draw renderings like these when I become an architect.

Is that the way their really building it? I count at least 27 floors, I thought they had downsized it. Also It looks to be built in a dense downtown setting, I thought all the casinos were going to be just outside of downtown.
