Detroit Casino Megathread

What makes this proposal even more of a joke is how late in the game they are proposing it. All the casinos have made their plans and MGM is already building. If these people really want something like this to happen then they should buy MCS and convince Illitch to move MotorCity there. Thats thier only shot of anything like this happening.

MGM (the one furthest along in construction) has yet to put out a rendering. They are keeping it secret.

MotorCity (under construction) hasn't put out one, but the architects have on their own site:

Greektown (approved) is keeping theirs pretty secret as well, though they released some very flashy prelim. renderings a few months ago. I was told by a contact at Rossetti that this is not completely designed out, yet.

I didn't notice the columns and arches along the bottom of the hotel last time that a rendering of Greektown were posted here.

Not really. Most renderings dont get everything right. If you look at the renderings for the Transit Center you will see what they did with the Book Tower and Trolley Plaza.

IMO Greektown is by far the best of what we have seen so far, and I like the fact that it will stay in its current spot and help keep Greektown the premier entertainment area for the city.

I had a chance to look at some of the renderings of the Greektown hotel and the casino expansion. I found it amusing that many of the details are actually Roman rather than Greek. But that's the architectural nerd in me. I doubt most people would notice the differnce. A column is a column, right?

I was thinking of that when I remarked about the hotels base. I can't tell much from the cullumns in the rendering but the arches over the first floor windows are more Roman than anything.

Well, I think it looks good either way.

One bad thing about the 3 casinos building such consolidated facilities is that people can park there, gamble, eat, watch a show, and go home without ever having to venture around the city.......

I guess the alternative is risky, as if the casinos require people to walk too far, then people may not go.....but I am surprised the city did not require some limit on non-gaming facilities within the casino compex during the years of issues prior to these projects getting off of the group.
