Charlotte Star Sightings

Funny indeed...I am not so sure that I would consider a local television news anchor (former) a "celebrity"? Maybe to some people, who knows? I just moved from Charlotte but when I was living there Fantasia Barrino (American Idol winner) lived near me in the Piper Glen area off Rea Rd. Oh, well, most everyone knows that Tammy Faye lives in Matthews right? She is very nice and it is so refreshing to meet a highly religious person that can maintain an open-mind and sense of unconditional love for all people!

on sunday the 6th i had an eventful day. i got to see ira glass (this american life) speak @ blumethal. as we were leaving i was introduced to jane lynch (best in show, 40 yr old vrgin). my friend whom i went with is a locations director for movies & tv. after that we went to the ASCOT INN, behind uptown cabaret. camel had rented the whole place out and was throwing a las vegas themed party. ron jeremy (every porn movie made, surreal life) was there. you could get your picture taken with ron jeremy and renelvis (local celeb). it was a strange day.

anyways, i just thought about it b/c i noticed that PEDRO (napoleon dynamite) will be @ crush tonight. he will be spinning '80s music. classic.

For what it's worth, the Starbucks in Charlotte Plaza and the BofA near the Omni are hot spots for celebs who are performing at the Blumenthal or Comedy Zone, etc. This summer, Joan Jett was at the BofA Bux, and Pauly Shore and Jon Secada were @ Chlt Plaza several times this year. Tammy Faye goes there too.

I guess even celebs need their caffeine fix.

Apparantly Alison Kraus bought a condo at Settler's Place here in Uptown.

really? thats pretty cool. how long ago did she buy? it's a good sign when high profile or similar people move to a city that has nothing to do with their occupation. there is a reason charlotte has alot of nascar and old pro wrestling stars... as well as our other sports figures. she must really like the city.

I saw Pat McCrory walk into Latta Arcade this morning. (OK, stop snickering... it's the best I could do... ) I resisted the temptation to ask when the trash on 277 will be removed again. :P

Heh, I knew him when he would still pump his own gas into his honda at the 7/11 (or what ever it is now) at the corner of Kennelworth & E. Blvd.

But I can beat that, haha. I was eating at the former Spagetti Warehouse in South End with a bunch of Gay men in one of those brass bed tables right in the center of the restaurant. We were quite astonished when a rather tipsy Sue Myrick holding an opened bottle of wine joined us in our little party. haha.

This topic is amusing...Charlotte is a nice place and whenever I'm asked about it, I usually have good things to say. But, Charlotte will know it has arrived as a city when the sighting of Allison Kraus much less Ric Flair will not warrant even a passing comment.

For example, the other day after leaving a meeting, a colleague and I were walking through SoHo towards the subway, when we crossed paths with Jessica Alba. No one was bothering her, she was just walking down Thompson Street with a friend of hers.

I'm not saying this to put down Charlotte at all. I know you can't compare it to New York, but the best tactic is to not be star-struck...

has anyone seen the guys from U2 today?

where do these "stars" stay when in town? it used to be that almost all big acts stayed @ the park hotel. but since there is a new energy uptown and since the arena is so close - are we seeing more and more of these well known people @ the westin? ascott inn?

when john c. reilly was in town shooting the nascar comedy, he rented a house off of the plaza. he was often seen @ the dish and plaza/midwood HT. most of the actors and actress's lived in southpark or uptown. i think it's cool that mr. reilly chose to stay in a neighborhood like plaza/midwood.
