The zoning thing was interesting for Powdersville. Their "old South" representative on the Anderson County Council suggested they do so zoning. The Council, based on his recommendation, voted unanimously in favor. Then the community meetings happened. People were not only opposed to it, they were downright angry about it. Rep. Wilson then had to go public with a "I misread my constituents" statement. He then went to the next council meeting and asked them to reject his previous motion. I guess it takes three readings for the Anderson Council to do anything. So it was okayed in reading 1, but rejected in readings 2 and 3. No zoning for now.

The reasoning went something like, "the government can't tell me what to do or not do with my land!"

According to the Powdersville Post, Wal Mart has confirmed that it will build a 148,000 square foot SuperCenter at the corner of Highways 153 and 81. Anderson County's Bill West said he received Walmart's application on January 12th. There is no firm date as yet regarding when construction will begin but is expected to start in Spring 2012. The project will be discussed at a February 14th Meeting of the Anderson County Planning Commission. And yes i'm just as shocked to hear this news as you are seeing how it's only five minutes away from the Walmart SuperCenter in Easley.

An article from the Anderson Independent said the site was chose because it is exactly 7 miles from the Easley walmart and one located in Greenville.
