IN PROGRESS: Front Street @ Adriaen's Landing

I'll believe it when I see it.... For now I remain skeptical.

Great News:

Hartford's Front Street project stalled / Ch. 8 - It is supposed to be the cornerstone of the Capitol City's mega re-development project, but since reaching a deal on Front Street nearly a year ago, the site remains untouched. http://www.wtnh.com/global/story.asp?s=693...tType=Printable

Why is this so hard to get done? It's almost all free.

This link you posted doesn't work. I went to the ch. 8 site and found the story. It doesn't really add anything new. Its just a recap of the projects history and the fact that it has had troubles thus far.

sorry for the bad link. I would say it add something in that 1) people are still talking about it (other than us) and 2) that the project is still going nowhere

Well, I would say its going nowhere if it doesn't break ground in October as currently scheduled.

Shocking!! Nothing new on the Nitkin, CCEDA, or Hartford websites. No way this gets started on time... does anyone actually begin a large project like this right before winter anyway? Maybe they're counting on global warming.

What exactly does CCEDA do?

So what does the Wadsworth bailout mean for the project? Did someone write elsewhere that construction is now put off until spring? What a clusterf***.

We are in full agreement. Front Street is the most frustrating project ever! How come Magic Johnson can't come do it like the huge development he's doing in Bridgeport of all places? WTF?!

It's astounding how much opportunity has been squandered. And the worst part is that as the project stands now (in two phases with no committed retail) I am seriously thinking it will be a day late and a dollar short...

Lack of progress on this lot is the least of my concern. It can stay that way for as long as it wants, as long as no parking is allowed on it.

I'd rather we start filling in the holes in buildings that already exist and making sure no historic building ever gets torn down in Hartford again! Priorities are important. It's like having 5 kids who you can't properly raise or support and then going off trying to have another, not that this would happen in this city...

Here's a crazy thought - why doesn't someone call Mr. Blue Back Square developer and ask him to ride in on his white horse to save Front St. and Hartford? He can use the same plans and build the exact same thing for all I care.

That would be fine by me as well.

The only element missing would be location.

Maybe they should just hire their leasing company.. That goes for Northland as well...

I know perception is everything, but West Hartford Center is very small and not especially easy to get to for out of towners. What makes the location so good is the cluster of upscale shopping within a few block area making it a destination. Add a convention center, a large hotel, a world class art museum and a science center at the intersection of two major highways and you have something BBS can't touch. It doesn't hurt that rents are far less expensive than BBS. If I were designing Front Street, I would also include a high rise condo tower and a badly needed boutique hotel. The potential is there.

Hartford needs to do something about crime which seems to get worse. There is a widespread perception that Hartford is unsafe among outsiders even though thje vast majority of all violent crime reported in the media happens in certain neighborhoods and is not random. If the media wants to keep scaring people out of Hartford, they won't come back. People need to feel safe. Hartford also needs to lockup panhanders. I am so sick of not being able to walk one block downtown without getting harrassed by some homeless guy looking for cash "Excuse me sir.... but can I speak to you for a minute? I'm not a bum, but I need $4 for a bus ticket, blah blah blah." I hate it and so does everyone else.
