As a resident of Rumford, I'm pretty stoked about all of the waterfront development going on. I mean, the Seekonk River is right there, but there's no access to it! Plus, there's no good bike route from Rumford to ANYWHERE if you have two little kids in tow. (I don't want to take them up Broadway)

I was curious about the new Waterfront Drive they keep talking about. It's supposed to go from the new Tockwotten development all along the waterfront to the Phillipsdale area and provide access to all of the new development sites.

It would also give those of us in north east EP much better access to 195, or I should say, the new "I-Way", and a good bike route to the nice linear park on the Washington Bridge, as well as the East Bay bike path.

I scoured the web and couldn't find much about it, so I wrote the Planning Commission. Construction has begun!

Here's what they had to say...

Dear Mr. Treanor-

Thank you for your e-mail. We are also very pleased that the waterfront redevelopment is finally starting to take shape.

Regarding Waterfront Drive, there is no information packet but the status is as follows:

-The Warren Avenue Connector is the southernmost segment of Waterfront Drive stretching from the foot of Warren Avenue south to Bold Point Park. Construction of this piece began last month and is expected to be completed by the end of summer

Baron Von Rumford, eh!!! Cute screen name. Please let me introduce myself. I'm the Duke of Riverside.

HA! Nice to meet you, Duke! It was the first thing I could think of. Baron Von Rumford was actually a loyalist to the crown during the American Revolution (what a dick). I think he was driven out of EP by Ye Olde Townie Militia.

WALGREENS GETS CONDITIONAL APPROVAL FOR NEW WARREN AVENUE STORE

Some neighbors come out to complain about traffic problems this project will add to an already busy intersection, however the city approved it with conditions. Mostly the city seems to be concerned with plantings, shrubs, tree and holly plantings. Trees will be selected that addresses the fire dept concerns. $ 32,000 will be guaranteed towards landscape improvement, along with a guarentee of a minimum of two growing seasons following planting.

It looks like the building they knocked down next to Dunkin Donuts is to make way for an even bigger DD with a drive-thru too.

The whole corner is leveled now, including DD. I remember reading about this last year. Yes, it is to be a bigger and better DD with a drive thru. Local residents were against it due to concerns regarding increase traffic because of the drive thru.

Guess DD won that battle after all.

Is there any precedents for having an intersecton with CVS, BROOKS (soon to be RITE AIDE), & WALGREENS on three of the 4 corners? (The new DD being on the 4th). IT makes no sense to me.

Traffic is always backed up on Warren Ave during the day. This certainly won't help. But at least the red lights react to traffic patterns.

I was wondering this myself. Especially considering Brooks and CVS are open 24 hours. Wonder if there are 25 hours in a day for Walgreens to be open :whistling:

Um, 30 minutes to Boston? Yeah, at 3 AM maybe and driving 85 mph. It's almost 50 miles to Boston from East Providence. Talk about a little misleading...

Ha, I think you would need a police escort to get from EP to Boston in anything less than one hour. Boston: 30 minutes, Warwick: 35 minutes?? And since when is Warwick a destination if you live in East Providence. EP has it's own strips to compete.

The news about East Pointe is great though, I think that whole area could be a great place to live in 15 years or so. (Once the stores/businesses follow the residences and public spaces).

Warwick has the airport. However, those times are indeed effed.
