CONSTRUCTION THREAD: ONE Greenville (Main @ Washington)

That's great news! Maybe this will be the last battle for the THREE that brought the suit.

Giving the developer and the GC some time to get the final logistics figured out, and hopefully we'll see construction by the end of the month (as a conservative estimate, ideally, it'll be a week out :D )? Washington Street should see construction on the Bookends Phase II (aka Washington Station--hate the name) as well by the end of the month!

I am familiar with the "Washington Station" project and can provide a quick update. Davis Property Group closed their construction loan this week and now owns the land. The city of Greenville is going to remove all of the trees currently on site the week of the 19th and replant them in a public park. Construction is scheduled to begin the first week of October.

The project will NOT be called Washington Station. That was just a working name. DPG has hired a marketing firm out of Atlanta to brand the project so a name has not yet been determined. That should make Metropolis happy!

From the City of Greenville-

Piazza Bergamo Public Input Meeting

Sears Shelter at McPherson Park

100 East Park Avenue

Thursday, September 15

5:30 – 6:30 p.m.

The City will host a public meeting, led by Civitas, an urban design, planning and architecture firm based in Denver, to discuss the redesign and revitalization of Piazza Bergamo. The goal of the project is to enhance the plaza area to both complement the private investment taking place around it and to create a new destination for downtown.

The purpose of the meeting is to engage citizens in the planning process and enlist the public's assistance in creating a unique urban space. At this interactive meeting, Civitas representatives will share concepts and ideas for designing public spaces for a variety of uses, and attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and offer their input.

Parking is available in McPherson Park behind the Sears Shelter in the lower lot next to the tennis courts and in the parking lot directly across the street from the entrance to the Sears Shelter. For more information, call the Public Works Department at (864) 467-8000.

There's some giant pieces of machinery at Piazza Bergamo. It's hard to tell if they're on site for the orange building's renovations, the Piazza's transformation, or ONE. However, based on their sheer size and location, I think it must be the latter option.

What type of equipment? Like bulldozers and backhoes? If yes then it's probably for ONE/Washington Square as the orange building's plans are just for renovations and Piazza Bergamo's transformation won't begin for at least several more months due to the public meetings not being held yet for the design plans. This would also be in line with when the site grading permit was approved and how long it takes the general contractor to get set up. This is all just a guess though.

Considering the wall is down already for the orange building, it's def not for that, but all of Piazza Bergamo is fenced off with signs that say "we're still open during construction" for Sassafras, Mast, etc... However, the equipment was behind the Evolve Male building and thus obscured by the green fencing...

The demolition of the Evolve Male building was to be voted on at the Sept. 1 DRC meeting. Perhaps it was approved and the equipment is to demo the building. Is it vacant or still occupied?

I hate that it was approved without a plan in place for its future. It's an attractive storefront.

Anyway, so there's options, but no matter what, SOMETHING is happening on this block!
