Based on everything that I've heard, I think Tupelo Honey should do just fine with its Laurens Street location, with or without the improvements/construction hassles.

 

Considering how VERY important this Piazza makeover is to the City, I think their willingness to temporarily delay some of its implementation means they're confident in phase III's imminent commencement. They wouldn't let their current pet project be delayed by some far off vision.

Hughes and partners have GIFTED 4 floors of Phase I to Clemson. Total space: 70,000 sq ft worth $9m.

This makes me think Phase III is bigger than we thought...

Meh...I still think phase 3 will only be a max of 15 stories tall. I just don't see a new city tallest coming out of this even with Hughes involved.

I would think a major business would like Clemson around. Hence it could be bigger.

Not sure how I feel about the name change. I'll have to wait and see what they propose, but I feel like Piazza Bergamo is firmly established in the community.

The shingle sign for Tupelo Honey Cafe is up on North Laurens Street. Tables and umbrellas outside as well as other signs to join Mast's and Tupelo will really change the feel on this street.

Cool. It looks like my max of 15 stories will be pretty close to accurate then. Yeah, 20+ stories would be even better but I just don't see the Greenville market being able to fill something that big especially if it is all office space.

I'm wondering how big of a parking garage the City is going to build on the site and what the base of the building will consist of.

I wish they would transform Washington Street from Academy or Richardson to Spring Street to alter its feel and slow traffic. A planted median like South Main past Markley Street or no median and diagonal parking would be nice to see.

Good question. Also curious as to what other retailers/restaurants have filled the remainder of the phase II building.

I assume this doesn't include the parking garage??? If so then it should be at least the second tallest building in Greenville if nothing else.

Steel poles for the shade structure in Piazza Bergamo are now getting installed.

Oh and one other thing:

A large part of Tupelo’s support will focus on fundraising for Mill Village Farms. June 17, one day before Tupelo Greenville opens its doors, the restaurant will host a special fundraising party, and Frabitore is developing a continuous giving plan that would funnel a percentage of sales of a certain menu item to Mill Village Farms.

One of those items is the “Busy as a Bee Breakfast.” The Greenville restaurant will serve as a test pilot for the breakfast-on-the-go morning special, which is geared toward the busy business community. The special breakfast will run from 7:30-9:30 a.m. with a menu of items like breakfast sandwiches and Tupelo’s specialty oatmeal. Then you add tea, coffee or juice, pay $5 and you’re on your way.

The idea is to appeal to Greenville’s vibrant downtown business community.

Tupelo Honey will donate a portion of the proceeds from the Busy as a Bee menu to Mill Village Farms during a certain period of time. They will open at 9 a.m., and you can have your traditional sit down. But if you’re busy you just slap down $5, no change, and get a scratch-made breakfast.
