New Subforum?

How many of you think there should be a subforum for the fall line cities: Columbus, Macon, Augusta. These cities are growing and I think need their own subforum. What do you think?

I don't think there's enough posts on these cities yet to warrant subforums. They're fine still on the first page of the Georgia forum, IMO. The only time a subforum is needed is when posts from that city begin to overwhelm a certain section of the forum, and that's not happening in this case. At times, days pass without a single post on any of these cities.

If a serious boom begins in any of these cities (or in the number of forumers from these cities), then a subforum may be warranted.

Topher's right.

There simply isn't enough interest in creating one.......yet. The Fall Line Cities (Macon, Augusta, Columbus, and we can probably toss Warner Robins in, too) do have more activity than the rest of Georgia, so it isn't necessarily a bad idea (it's just I don't think one should be created yet). Perhaps we should get an admin or mod's opinion on the subject.

Heck, it took A LOT of work just to get the Atlanta one. Atlanta's the only city in GA that has nearly enough posters or activity to merit a subforum.

If the fall line cities were closer and created a single metro like the Triangle or triad in NC, then there might be enough activity concentrated there, but there isn't enough yet, not to mention the fact that the area of "The Fall Line Cities" would probably be too general for a subforum. Creating such a forum might also effectivly destroy the Georgia forum as we know it. Like I said, Georgia cities in general will probably need more activity before a subforum is created for one or more of them.

I think that these three cities lumped togrther could make for a pretty decent subforum but do see what topher and i-c man are saying. Also a comment about adding WR. O dont think that would really help though. WR is just a suburb and nothing much more than strip mall after strip mall and sub-division after sub-division is going on there. Nothing with major economic impact outside the base.

I truly don't suscribe to the notion that there not being enough post warrants no creation of a subforum. I think if you build it they will come, as evidence with the Tallahassee subforum which didn't exist over 6 months ago, and is now one of Florida's most active. I say give it a shot to at least see how things work. Whats the worse that can happen?

Considering the relatively few posts we get on these cities, I have to say no. However, there has been an increase in all of Georgia and its cities in the past few weeks/months. If this keeps up then it could happen.

I do not like the idea of creating a subforum for 3 cities in 3 different geographical areas. As it is now, these 3 cities are the primary source of activity, so really all we would be doing is renaming the Georgia section into something else.

The difference is that those are all very large metros in Texas.

True, but wouldn't that would be reason enough to create a Los Angeles or San Diego forum, then (as an example).

It's a shame those areas aren't too well represented by frequent posters.

But just for the record, I'm not doubting your judgment on this idea for a forum. In fact, i very much agree with it, as I hopefully have laid ut before.

Thats my point. We could go ahead and create forums for all of these large metros and still have no posts. Here you atleast have people passionate enough to ask for a subforum so they may be able to organize their ideas without having to fish for them.

I support the creation of the other subforums, atleast make it regional like say, Middle GA (Macon, Warner Robins, etc..) Southern GA (Savannah, Valdosta....). Thats just an idea.

Middle GA could work, if the major cities covered are defined.

I really wish Savannah and the rest of coastal GA was represented better here. I think we only have two or three forumers from that area, only one of which is actually active to a degree (SavannahGa).

That is very true, and I take that into consideration. Having enough interest to ask definately brings it to the staff's attention, and for my part, it makes it more liekly to happen sooner.

Speaking hypothetically, I'd rather see individual city forums than regional ones. Regional forums are less focused on the urban issues that we like to promote here at UP. The only cities that have enough activity at this point to warrant a subforum would be Columbus and Augusta. Savannah might not be far off.

Indeed it does. I am glad to see intrest in Macon picking up. I have some familiy there so it is nice to be able to read about what is happening :)

When I made my previous comments, they are based on my experience with this section since it was created in its present form. Outside of Atlanta, Augusta and Columbus have been the more active areas.

Any city has the potential to have a subforum of its own. Its just a matter of whether creating a new subforum will be worthwhile.
