Garris

Middletown, Connecticut

Recommended Posts

I just posted these photos in the Hartford, CT section. These are photos of Middletown, CT, which is best known for being the home of Wesleyan University. The city is situated along the Connecticut River and has a population of 44,156. It's at the confluence of several major highways. That's about all I know, as I just photographed it as I was heading through town :D.

An interesting story. Apparently, the tower with the clock in the downtown photo is a police station. I found this out when, after pulling out to go back to the highway, I was instantly pulled over by the police to ask what I was doing photographing the area. I had no idea!

Great pics!

Middletown is truly an amazing city. Right on the CT river, just south of Hartford, just north of New Haven and close to I-91 and Rt.9

Main Street has truly bloomed over the last few years with many new restaurants, bars, shops and even a hotel. Also Weslyan University is truly a great asset to the city.

Garris you do get around. Do you work on the road or something?

:), nope. I just travelled on vacation recently, and Middletown is mid distance between Providence, RI where I live and the Hudson Valley in NY state, where I grew up (and my parents still reside).

My photo collection makes it look like I've travelled more than I have. I lived in the Midwest previously, am now in New England, grew up in NY state, and have had a vacation or two in the last two years, so that gives me a fairly diverse group of recent photos, but compared to others I know (who are travelling around the nation or world several times a year), I'm not that active.

That said, I'm travelling to L.A. next year for a conference and hope to get some shots while there, and I'm planning on taking some day trips over the next several months to Boston, Philly, and Hartford to photograph as well. And NYC is always within reach as well. I'd like to make my next vacation next year or in 2007 a great city I haven't been to yet, so I'm thinking maybe Montreal, New Orleans (pump some tourism dollars into the region), or Charleston, SC.

Come down to Norfolk area sometime and see some Va culture and see what you think! You would enjoy taking pics of the aircraft carriers and the helicopters flying everywhere
