No Kimpton in SouthEnd either after the West Elm cancelled for different reasons of course. Financing is tightening for hotels. http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/biz-columns-blogs/development/article173918531.html?itx[idio]=6199977&ito=792&itq=bc2bccfa-2693-4dcc-80d1-366a12ced3b7

West Elm is still in play, just in a different location. I always thought Kimpton Dilworth was a bizarre location for a hotel, much better suited for multifamily.

I am sure this was discussed here previously but I had forgotten about this smallish Beacon office project on Lexington. It appears that it will share the parking deck used for their Morehead project.

Mid they actually put a restaurant coffee shop in one of the ground floor spaces it will be a really nice addition to that part of Dulworth.

(sorry about the shadow)

CBJ has a discussion of CHA projects which are (or are about to be) in the bid process. It says that Strawn and Hall House contractor bidding won't begin  until "late 2018 or perhaps 2019." Is it safe to assume these projects are immune from cyclical pressures? Or if we end up in a recession are we going to end up with concrete block, three story institutional crap?

Honestly, a recession would be beneficial for publically bid projects, which typically have a fixed budget regardless of economic conditions. Construction prices are astronomical right now and forcing projects all over the place to cut costs significantly

Interestingly CBJ reports that the parcel has sold to another hotel developer (OmShera). I would not call their portfolio of properties glamorous.

A new restaurant is opening in the old location of The Meat & Fish Company called Hi Tide Poke and Raw Bar. Signage is up and they are hiring. It’ll be nice to have a raw bar back in the neighborhood since Vinnie’s closed (not that Vinnie’s was known for quality, but still). It looks like it’ll be pretty laid back, and hopefully that means they’ll have raw oysters that don’t cost $3 each. I can kill a good 3-4 dozen no problem, but that gets pricy at most places.

Former Kimpton site in Dilworth will now be a Courtyard by Marriott. Supposedly "customized" to capture the spirit of Charlotte and Dilworth. It will have a 5,000 square foot roof top bar.
