Does anyone know what is going on with the construction in the middle of East Boulevard and Scott Avenue? It appears to be a duct bank. Anyone know anything?

It's a duct bank Duke is building to supply Carolinas Medical Center. It's going to go down East Blvd to Garden Terrace where it will connect to the CMC campus.

They have been working north from Scott for a few weeks leading out of the substation at Ordermore that is also being improved/upgraded. DCDA newsletter said construction may be 24 hours per day if it will speed the completion and reduce time of traffic blockage.

Imagine both corners of Scott and East having big office buildings.

Those buildings do give East some character and I think some of that will be lost with them gone though.

The other half of the block with the former Epicurean, which is that displayed above by t_money, is now Jersey Mike and Dilworth Drug, and that half is owned by Reece Gibson. Reece was a longtime business owner there with his service station, a center of gas and service for the Dilworth area for many years, decades. Reece was well known because he was always at his station and had a nearly frantic personality, barely able to hold a short conversation before he moved to the next detail or job. He did the work of several men and his staff accomplished more by 8 am than most of us all day. He had a  harelip repaired well after birth and his speech bore the mark of that distinction. If you ever met him it would be but for a moment before he was away on some other task,  but you would remember him. A search shows him to now have his address at the beach and he is bothering gulls and collecting shells , and hustling after people to ask about what-all even now, I am sure.

There were a few in my much younger years but they have disappeared from my experience decades ago, Reece excepted. Happily this is now an artifact of the past in the U. S.

Charlotte Ledger this morning is reporting on a significant land sale that included 5 properties right in this area, with assistance by Atrium's law firm.

Something seems off on that....is there a map highlighting the parcels?

That would include both the 1101 E Morehead resi condos and Berkeley Place commercial condos....which seems problematic, but I guess not impossible to acquire.

These aren't quite where the photo from above is though. Most of these properties are large, expensive looking office buildings.

Cantina/Babalu space on East blvd.  has been gutted (and the parking lot torn out?) Is this a lot scrape?

a bit further up the street, I believe work is underway in the People's Market space, but its hard to be sure (windows are papered)

Ledger reporting that the Alpine Ski Center has sold:

Records filed Tuesday show that the half-acre Alpine Ski Center lot has been sold for $2.55M to a company affiliated with West Third Street Management of Los Angeles.

The ski shop will remain a tenant through April 2022, said Bryan Wyker, a broker with The Providence Group, who worked on the transaction. It would be replaced with retail shops and a restaurant that could have a rooftop patio.
