Was over at the Greek Festival on East today for lunch.  Be sure to stop by and visit one of the QC's most popular festivals.

A high-rise apartment tower is being planned for the 1960's vintage 1-2 story building at 1427 South Blvd.   This is the building that just past the affordable housing senior high-rise/Fallon redevelopment site.

430 units with ground floor retail.  

I would think that's at least 30 stories on this site.  I had heard a rumor that Centrum (same Chicago developer as the apartment project planned down at South/Cleveland/Worthington) was planning a 40-story tower in the area, so this might be that project.

Nope, two different projects. This is Akridge  Centrum is still a-go as well

So many of these DC Chicago and NYC developers heading south to Charlotte as their markets slow they are looking for new opportunities south.  DC developers used to pay no attention at all to NC and now they active in both Charlotte and Raleigh Durham like Akridge, Kettler, Jefferson etc.  Now Chi-town developers like Riverside, Centrum are heading here too.

30 stories??? That is serious business. And close enough to Uptown and the Queensbridge development that it may help stretch the skyline in a fairly continuous fashion from certain angles.

Is that the 26 story tower and 15 story hotel?

Its becoming hard to keep up (even for this crowd lol).  So many new high-rise planned throughout charlotte's urban core.

Is it just me, or does it feel as though something is missing? All this core city density, and no signature civic space to tie it all together. We lack a compelling natural landmark like a bay front, a lakefront, a riverfront, an Oceanside. Queens park could do this when it opens in the year 2150.  In the meantime, what if a significant portion of Tryon through Uptown becomes the Charlotte Central Square and Market - our very own oak canopied Trafalgar Square, perhaps lined with street vendors like at Pride and with regular cultural “programming,” like live music and other performances celebrating different segments of our growing population?

The rail trail seems to be our civic space. Hopefully we can have more parks and restaurants/businesses that will tie into the rail trail as time goes on

I was thinking down further on Scott and close to Morehead, in Midtown. Got my cross streets mixed up.

My friend thinks he thought he could turn around and did not noticed it was a deck as it is grade level from the side street.

I agree, there's been so much commercial and residential development but the urban core is lacking a little in the cultural department. Someone else pointed out that the Rail Trail is sort of serving as a civic space at the moment and I would definitely support expanding on this. Imagine if the trail was just covered in street vendors and art pieces and interspersed little event spaces. It would be like a riverwalk type feature, except following the light rail instead of a river. I think that would be really cool and give Charlotte a notable tourist and cultural attraction.

To be honest, there needs to be like 10 hotels built around/directly on the rail trail. Also more new builds have to have their retail directly on the trail.

Don’t forget that there was a rail trail expansion and parklet plan about 10 years ago. Some of the plans got implemented (swings at Carson, see saw at Bland) but other parts (patio and table space across from Prices and several other gathering spots) just got forgotten. Thoughtful bulb-out, small park space would really make a big difference.

The area around the Trolley Barn is somewhat neglected, but it still gathers quite a few folks. I am a little nervous about it being private property (there is an easement for rail but the parcels are still owned by Atherton Mill LLC according to Polaris) and the parking lot can be intrusive. Regardless ownership that area should become more of a gathering place once the trail on that side of the tracks is complete to Remount.

Sycamore also functioned (a little) like rail trail park space. The loss of that green (ish) space along with its weekend activity will diminish that part of the trail.
