Here's the start of the article in the Hartford Courant about asbestos literally falling out of this building into the street....

Discovery Of Asbestos Puts Halt To Work On Building

Suspect Material Found Outside

October 7, 2005

By OSHRAT CARMIEL, Courant Staff Writer

Hartford officials issued a "stop work order" this week to redevelopers of a downtown office building after the state health department determined that chunks of material found on the sidewalk outside contained asbestos.

The asbestos-filled material, known as Transite, fell from the window supports of 1-7 Myrtle St., better known as the Capitol West office building on the west side of downtown.

The asbestos material had been glued to the foam and metal sockets, or supports, surrounding the windows - most of which had been removed in the past week. The removal of the windows, by detaching them from their encasements, "disturbed" the asbestos material, which was above and below the windows, said Ron Skomro, supervising environmental sanitarian with the state Department of Health's asbestos program.

On Thursday afternoon, the owner of the building, New York-based developer Joshua Guttman and Myrtle Street Realty LLC, dispatched an asbestos removal contractor to the site.

The developer has sent in work crews to handle this problem and the project is expected to get back on track. Although this asbestos discovery is bad news it sounds as if the developer really cares about getting this project back on track as opposed to say the Morgan Reed Group and the Bond Hotel scheme.
