Bellingham houses up 23% in last year

Average home prices for selected Whatcom County communities in the first nine months of 2005:

Bellingham: $319,947, up from $306,033 at the end of June and up 23 percent from the same period in 2004

Lynden: $308,136, down from $312,526 at the end of June and up 22 percent from 2004

Ferndale: $286,628, up from $280,060 at the end of June and up 25 percent from 2004

Sudden Valley: $268,651, up from $264,225 at the end of June and up 22 percent from 2004

Blaine/Birch Bay: $264,164, up from $255,666 at the end of June and up 16 percent from 2004.

Bellingham, population 72,000 with 180,000 in the county. With its stunning setting, it is easy to see why people want to live there:

I was in Bellingham in September. It's a gorgeous little college town, which offers a wonderful Seattle side trip (2 hour drive, 3 hours by Amtrak) if you're ever up there.

It's convenience to Seattle and Vancouver make it prime target for development.

^ Great pics. I like how Bellingham has two "downtowns"; downtown & Fairhaven. Once upon a time they were seperate towns. The Alaska ferry system's only lower 48 state stop is at Fairhaven.
