When doing my shopping for a two week period of time, some items I get from Sams, some I get from Wal-Mart and some I get from Food Lion.

That location WILL be a Harris Teeter in spring '07. (I hate harris teeter BTW, too expensive )

neither do I. if i may predict... i'll bet the store in the Target Shopping center off Lawndale will become a Harris Teeter if Southern Family Markets folds.

Yeah it pretty much had Harris Teeter written all over it once SFM bailed

Harris Teeter and Food Lion are pretty much it for Greensboro now. Harris Teeter for middle-high income, Food Lion low-income.

Of course there is the Wal-Mart "Food Center", if you don't mind beating off the mass of humanity.

I'm surprised Lowes Foods hadn't been more agressive in its expansion into the core of Greensboro with all the vacant stores now.

it's not quite their game plan to use another's stores vacated space.. they like to build from scratch.

Here in Gibsonville, it is exactly what they did. They switched over a Byrds Grocery Store when Byrds moved out.

There is a difference between Lowes buying the Byrds chain and the Hannaford locations in the Triangle and Wilmington. Lowes was not in these markets at the time, so this gave them an in to these markets in fairly successful locations.

They took over a failed Winn Dixie in Greensboro on New Garden Rd. as well. I hate when they take over other buildings though because it's like a bizzaro-HT. I can't find anything in that store on New Garden. Its layout is that the store is really long instead of being wide like most HT stores. So, the aisles end up being so long that I can't tell what's way down on the other end.
