Michigan #2 in Capital Investments

MiBiz has an article regarding the new Ernst & Young US Investment Monitor, which compiles invested capital expenditures in every state. Michigan ranked #2 in the country last year, behind Texas. Even though over 34,000 jobs were added, the downside is that a great majority of Michigan's expansions were automotive related (although many foreign-owned automotive companies and suppliers), and 43 international companies have either entered or expanded their presence here.

This is also a study based on hard dollars, and not one of those subjective "Feel good, Most Livable, Best States to Open A Business, Best Places to blah, blah, blah"

Amazingly, most of the smaller auto suppliers (you know the non union nimble movers) are booming. I can't think of one that is not working six or seven day weeks at the moment.

Not according to my aunt, shes saying they are laying people off right and left, at a non-union factory with the initials JC in a place west of Grand Rapids whose name is shared with the Netherlands.

THey are barely over the black. If it wasnt for toyota buying some of their stuff, they'd be closing the factory.

Yah, it's actually JCI, and they already did a bunch of cuts and closed a couple of plants a couple of years ago, but then I think they are expanding their Lakewood facility. Oh yah, here it is:

Whoa, look at this:

A little anti-union sentiment going on at JCI.
