OBJ has an headline teasing a Taco Bell Cantina targeting downtown Orlando.   I was able to do a screen grab to read some of it before the paywall.   What I read was a lot of unconfirmed nothing with no useful quotes or timeline but I believe the story didn’t come out of no where and we may see one downtown at some point.

Look at the Google cache of it.  That is the way to read the whole article.

I'm just glad my old reliables, Maxine's, Dexter's and Kres, keep hanging in there. Some of these places seem like revolving doors.

If you hit the right combination of good food / value for what you get / atmosphere / service you are pretty likely to have a long run. Can’t recall any failed restaurant that was even close to successful at hitting the right formula, imo.  Revolving door, sure, but you can see the closings coming a mile away usually.

With Handy Pantry closing,  it made me curious how big of a list of small retail/eateries that we have embedded into residential neighborhoods vs.main corridors like Mills, 50 and Orange.   I can't think of too many as nestled in as Handy Pantry except for Kelly's Homemade Ice Cream on Fern Creek & Kaley.  Most of the ones I can think of are just off of the major road like Dandelion Cafe.

What ones am I missing?

Scott J takes another look at the great-granddaddy of Orlando restaurants, Linda's La Cantina:

I'm gonna have to agree on this. Overall not a very good experience (several over a 30 year span). I know people like their memories of things gone by, but, in my opinion, this is not a memory worth holding on to.

Yes, I felt a little disloyal (I started going with my parents when it was a tiny roadhouse and Orlando's finest would stand on the sidewalk with cars whizzing by on Colonial on weekend nights in the '60's) but my steak place has been Kres for several years.

Muddy Waters and Mucho Liqour are done. If y'all didn't already know.

I really wanted to buy my booze at Mucho since it's only a couple of blocks from me and an easy walk. But the price for a bottle of Maker's Mark was just so insane compared to Total Wine. I confess I caved to the big box.

OK, so Muddy is out and Menagerie is in. According to Scott J, the Stubborn Mule folks across the street are the new owners. The Mucho liquor store will become a bar.

A soft open may happen shortly.

I like Rusteak, I like Stubborn Mule, hopefully I like this too. Can't go wrong with more quality food options.

A couple weeks ago I said el buda was closed. A friend told me he has eaten there in the past week (said he was the only one there).  I'm not sure what is up, but wanted to correct the record that they are not out of business.

Yes, quoting myself. I can now say el buda is done. If anyone still cared.
