That was before my time so I'll never quite understand Ronnie's folklore although everyone refers to it with warm fondness. I'm glad they included his daughter this time since most articles I've read rarely include much about his surviving family. His daughter was my Realtor and she helped me buy my first place- she's a trip lol. She once told me a story about her dad's restaurant that explained how loyal his customers were: when the building was demolished, patrons started showing up to take little pieces of the rubble home as mementos.

What exactly were they putting in that food??:tw_tounge_wink:

They were hoping to FINALLY get the third pat of butter!

Seriously, though, the onion rolls were to die for and the macaroni and cheese (with ham and sharp cheddar) was the best I’ve ever had.

Oh, and the pickles (crisp, not mushy) and the coleslaw they brought out with the rolls *swoons*.

I also just loved watching the neon sign at night before the city made it go static.

Not to mention, Colonial Plaza was my favorite mall in town (especially after Ivey’s opened in ‘83). Ahhh, the good old days.

Folks behind Oudum leased the Tre Bambine space and plan to do a neighborhood bar and grill concept. Really curious what that means while working around the WOB exclusivities. I don't have much faith in this at all especially with how trash Coco is.

Well that clears that up... or not

Spice may have sucked but its weird to call it a high turnover spot when they were there a long time.

Not much faith in this one. I mean how good could Osphere possibly be given how meh Oudom and Coco are?

Looks like College Park is getting an Indian restaurant according to Faiyaz Kara. Got more faith in this one than O(udom)Sphere:

I like Oudom. It has good reviews online as well. Haven't heard good things about Coco but I've never been.

I got the scoop tonight from the brothers that just took over and new concepting the old midnight blue/graffiti. Should be awesome. More details to come.

Is this what you heard...

"Cavo’s Bar and Kitchen will feature “a simple menu with a northeast twist,” said Johnny Markaj, who will open the restaurant with partners John Cavallini and Mark Cavallini. “Northeast comfort food,” with house roasted and hand-carved beef, pork and other meats."

Elize opened last night in what was the Rusty Spoon location in 55W. The new owner did an interior refresh and the Chef used the downtime to do the same to the menu.

The interior came out really nice. Rusty Spoon was always the best food downtown, but the space never lived up to the food. The new look is very Scando-Euro- ish (fitting with the new Dutch owner) and looks much better than it was. Mark B. stopped by and took photos (see below).

The food seems to take many of the items that have always been on the Rusty Spoon menu and revisioned them. For example the deviled eggs are now "shoyu" style (like what you get in ramen) and the burger, that used to be stuffed, now has the added ingredients outside. The half dozen things we tried were fantastic and we liked that most of the menu items were available in 1/2 portions.

I like the redesign and the menu looks good. Dinner only 'till 9p though? and closed Sunday? Interesting choice...

Agreed. I spoke with the owner when she first bought and her plan is to go 7 days/ week breakfast, lunch, dinner. Maybe they are ramping up with adding staff and adjusting to a new menu...?

Also, looks like they may be installing a fancy coffee maker and pastry service in the front, which would be nice for early morning/ late night.

We've been a couple times. The food we tried has been very good, the space is attractive and live music a plus (not so loud as to dominate). The chef came from K and the kitchen has really good background (1921, Dovecote, etc) so everything has been executed well. The bar staff and servers could use some service training, but all in all a good experience. I've been when not too busy so I'm not sure how the noise level changes when it fills up.

I didn't see anything on the menu that reminded me of Dexter's- which is a positive.
