This is what you’ve been clamoring for - the latest Taco Bell design with more Drive-thru windows!

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/08/20/taco-bell-unveils-new-design-with-more-drive-thrus-as-pandemic-permanently-shifts-how-we-order.html

From CNBC

Haha, you don't know how true that is!

I'm glad to see they're implementing some tech in the kitchen to help order the menu items for the cooks to be faster to make. The OCD part of me long ago realized that if I ordered the same thing in a different order, they'd be able to cook it much faster, especially as the cooks get the order as you order it when they're not busy. Here's the secret: if an item needs to be heated as part of the prep, order it first, while its heating, they'll make the next item. If an item needs almost no prep at all, such as chips/fiesta potatoes/churros, order it as the very last item... then the other little trick is they can make all the tacos at the same time, so make sure you order them one after another, but not first, because if they start making some before you finish your order, they won't make them all together which just makes it take longer.

I've gone to Taco Bell way too much in my life, as you can now tell.

Another downtown restaurant has fallen. Elize, which took over the Rusty Spoon in 55W closed the doors on Saturday. If you didn't check it out while open you may have missed the best new restaurant to come to the area in a long time.

Church Street looks pretty sparse.

Hmmmmm - Park Ave. in WP is surviving the pandemic somewhat; Plant St. in Winter Garden is hanging in; DeLand is being innovative with Woodland Ave. and is making it (https://www.scottjosephorlando.com/news/5333-newsy-nuggets-food-journalist-org-disbands-beard-awards-on-hiatus-and-a-little-bit-of-new-orleans-comes-to-deland);

Church St. in downtown Orlando seems to be the weak link. I wonder what the difference might be.

Oh well, the 7-Eleven soldiers on. Oh Thank Heaven!

@dcluley98 can just stroll down the street a ways for some splendid takeout at Reyes Mezxaleria or just socially distance at the tables outside.

Just the pics are making me soooo hungry!

Russell’s, a casual fine dining eatery in Lake Ivanhoe (former Mesa 21 spot that lasted about two seconds), is opening in early September:

From Bungalower

"The name is inspired by the history of the neighborhood and is a nod to George Russell who moved to Florida in 1885 and made his living on the shore of Lake Ivanhoe selling pineapples."

Another pineapple themed restaurant with pineapple logo to compete with The Pinery right across the street?IMG_20200826_160559_676-696x696.jpg

It’s kind of intriguing, given pineapple has never been more than a bit player in our agricultural past, that it’s getting all this love lately. It’s as though the late Don Ho was really from Florida, not Hawai’i.

Where’s the love for citrus these days? Our football stadium gave it up for ... RV’s?

After citrus came... celery. (A. Duda & Sons, one of the larger local development firms, who gave us Viera, was the big stalk of that business, and yet nothing).

How ‘bout a big hug for sweet corn and ‘shrooms out Zellwood way?

Instead, as so often is the case, all the love goes to a fruit much more about someplace else than the sandy spit of land we call home.

The area where these 2 restaurants are being built was a pineapple farm pre-1900. The farmer was a man from CT named George Russell, hence the name of the restaurant. Orlando was, at the time, Pineapple capital of the world.

My fiancé (the gardener) reminded me she has toured active pineries in Florida in the Vero area and sent this article where I learned racoons love sugar- https://www.orlandosentinel.com/travel/explore-florida/os-pineapple-farm-keeping-alive-treasure-coast-s-roots-20170727-story.html

Also, Bungalower has some photos of when the Ivanhoe area was Pineapple Central soon to become a water park (Joyland for you IPA drinkers) and the precursor to the Orlando tourism industry- https://bungalower.com/2013/10/24/orlando-retro-pineapples-water-parks-and-the-history-of-lake-ivanhoe/

Red Lobster is no longer a local company since it was sold 6 years ago, but they do maintain the HQ here. That firm sold today to a Thai investment group.

They are expected to keep HQ here.

This is a travesty! Jack’s BBQ in Minneola is closing after ~70 years. We used to eat there after training for centuries in Lake County.

If JB’s Fish Camp in NSB doesn’t make it, will life be worth living? These mom and pop shops that stick around forever are the glue that holds civilization together.

This is a big one: WP’s Luma on Park is closing, ostensibly because the rent is too d**n high:
