Gables Residential Trust has announced plans for a project called Gables Park Plaza on 4-acres of land in western downtown Austin. The site is across the street from the Seaholm Power Plant, which is set to undergo redevelopment and will house a station for the future commuter rail lines. The plan includes building a 15-story, 100 unit condominium tower with parking deck and ground floor retail and a 10-story, 314 unit apartment building with parking deck, office space, and ground floor retail. The project will have to win a zoning change to build the condo tower, the site has a 120' height restriction, while the planned height of the building is just under 200'.

Gables also plans to add new roads to improve the traffic flow around the site. Work on Gables Park Plaza could be completed by mid-2008.
