Photos De Jour - Grand Rapids and West Michigan Area

Back in the day when Skateboarding was banned from DT, these bicycle cops where a skateboarder's worst nightmare. Trying to catch somebody riding a BMX bike that knew a thing or too about street riding was another story. The cops didn't stand a chance.

Well here's the full size if you want to get your drool on there Karen:

Here's another recent pic of our beloved river city...

I don't take or post many pics here, but I try to get them when I can.

Looks like the view from my wife and new baby's room...I've been looking at that same view the last few days!

(although I enjoy the view, I'm ready for them to come home!)

We were in 5 Center. Our view was of a 4 or 5 story windowless brick wall. I had to walk down the hall to take that shot. With all the construction, etc. taking place, I took that shot and the one from the bridge over Michigan Street so I could show our new baby what the city looked like back on the day he was born. I too got stir crazy in there. It was nice to get home. Congats on your new arrival.

Just an idea here but perhaps it is about time to somehow organize all of the wonderful photos, renderings, etc. on this site into one easily accessible and well structured sub-forum. I just wonder if it wouldn't be easier (especially for newer UP'ers) to access these great images. It would also serve as a great database that we could all utilize. I know it would probably take a lot of work so I understand if it doesn't happen. I just thought I'd at least put it out there.

This is not the best picture, but last night at 10:33 the International Space Station and the Space Shuttle flew over Grand Rapids. They started out in the NW sky (just about at treetop level), and moved across the sky to the SE over a 3 minute period. If anyone else saw it, it was amazing. The shuttle was "chasing" the space station a few degrees behind (or maybe the other way around, not sure). They were much brighter than any of the stars or planets, and were moving WAY faster than a normal jet flying overhead. Bill Steffen at WOODTV has a write up about it and other people who witnessed it They will apparently be making more passes overhead if you missed it.

You can sort of make out clouds in the picture being uplit by the city lights:

I was conveniently informed of that 2 minutes afterward. <<

Let's hope tonight's very brief fly-by will be visible.

Anywho: photos from Blues on the Mall today:

While there, I didn't actually listen to much blues. I found myself drawn more towards the McKay:

Hey, Breakdancing ain't just for grownups, either:

I think it was the busiest BOM I've ever seen...packed all the way to Pearl from the stage.

Oh, I don't know about that. I've seen busier BOTM's. I think it seemed busy because everyone was walking around instead of listening to the music. The crowd was very disinterested in the performance. The 15 minute harmonica solo was a bit much to stomach. There wasn't a lot of dancing and more people seemed to be talking to each other then paying attention to the act.

I'd have to concur with the crowd, I thought their act was very mediocre at best.

I didn't go. But its sounds like I didn't miss anything.
