Pro Sports Leagues Represented in FL

I went to a Florida Seals hockey game Sat. night in Kissimmee of all places. The team was originally in Orlando, then suspended operations for a year and moved to Kissimmee. They played the Jacksonville Barracudas.

This got me thinking about the pro leagues out there and what teams the cities in our states have that represent these leagues. The four majors are easy but I bet there are some others out there that would suprise us. List off the pro teams that your area has and the leagues they are in. I do not feel that spring training should be included.

I'll start.

Orlando Magic National Basketball Association

Orlando Predators Arena Football League

Florida Seals Southern Professional Hockey League

For baseball you are missing an entire league. The Florida State League (A level) probably has 10 to 15 teams.

Brickel: When did they close Hialeah?? And where is the Florida Derby run?

Hialeah closed a couple of years ago when the lobbyist, I mean the florida lawmakers deregulated the racing calendar. Previously they each had a season. They couldn't compete, especially since the other two tracks are owned by bigger deep pocketed companies.

A little bit of background is all I could find.

The Florida Derby is run at Gulfstream and is a stepping stone to the Kentucky.

  • 1 month later...

wasnt sure if this was an appropriate place to put this, but Stan Van Gundy held a press conference earlier today, resigning as head coach of the Miami Heat. Pat Riley is to resume Coachin the team. just thought it was breaking news in the florida sports world. (mainly because it was so unexpected, especially now that Shaq's back).

I think the only thing surprising about it is that Van Gundy didn't get fired 6 months ago, when talk of Pat Riley taking over first surfaced. In fact, before the 2005-2006 season started, ESPN had several of their analysts predict who would win coach of the year and one actually chose Riley.

How sad is this picture?
