Parramore's Future: Highrise Development or No?

It looks nice.  Lake Como K-8 i believe is going to be this size.  That one is about 60% complete and its a monster.   The neighborhood is a little angry with the school board because they handed out leaflets for public meetings to the neighborhood about 6 hours before the public meeting.  By the time most of the neighborhood got home from work that day, the meeting was almost over.

The City is in discussions to move its Pottery Studio at the Downtown Recreation Center over to Grand Avenue Elementary, thus saving the landmark building and giving more room for our burgeoning potters. A win-win for everyone and if this happens, three cheers to Buddy for saving part of our history!

An update on the Parramore Farmers' Market starting January 6:

From the Sentinel

There's at least an attempt to get neighborhood buy-in and participation on this. Whether this will work is going to depend on how successful it is.

A land trust has been created to keep housing affordable in Parramore even after UCF/Valencia Downtown opens in CV

(interesting fact: prices have already quadrupled)

A land trust for Parramore sounds like a good plan. Still, the Hannibal Square trust only created 21 homes in10 years?

OHA's much loathed Griffin Park complex is set to be demolished. Oddly, the goal is apparently to rebuild it even as the new junction of I4 and the East West will have even more of a stranglehold on residents than it does now. I think the only fitting use would be an urban forest to attempt to soak up all the new air pollution that will be generated.

Then, it will become a homeless camp.

There's a housing area just to the west of there that's just empty land.  The demolition of  Griffin Park give them a pretty much clean slate to redevelop everything in that area and make it nicer with better laid out roads that don't dead end and modern infrastructure.  Let's hope they do it right.

Parramore Oaks is indeed great news for the people of Parramore...as is demolition of the Griffin Park housing project. Both of these should provide excellent low-income housing stock for the remaining hard working people and elderly that remain between Parramore and Division (East-West) and Church and Anderson (North-South). Perhaps the time to bulldoze that entire area has arrived...start with a clean slate.

The question is will other Mid to High Rise projects follow the lead of the Orlando Magic Entertainment Complex and Bags Headquarters Building? The potential exists to create a true 24/7 sustainable destination that connects with the CBD...something very special and unique.

I like the idea.  The massing may be a bit off with that one tall tower, but the rest makes sense.  They seem to be really trying to connect the development to the community as well.  It mentions that they want the hotel to be named in honor of Wells (You may know him as the namesake of the Wells Built Museum).

My only thoughts are that they should keep Jackson St. through the development and that the old church building on the corner of Terry and Church is preserved.  We'll regret getting rid of either of them in the long term.  If rail transit ever comes to Church St., it could act as the vehicular alternate route or vis versa.  That old church building is one of the remnants of Parramore's rich history that we should not soon forget.
