They claim there ios no casino component, but that's a rather large "

entertainment center" without one. I hope the four hotels are going to be decent.

Casinos aren't allowed in DeSoto, and probably never will be since all the gambling interests in Tunica would be killed if casinos started sprouting adjacent to the Memphis city limits.

It makes you wonder though. This development will certainly feed off the casinos, as well as off Memphis flight. DeSoto was the fastest growing county in the South outside of Florida and Georgia from 2000-2004. Maybe that's not saying much, but perhaps we are witnessing the Las Vegasization of DeSoto-Tunica as an area of rapid, hectic superdevelopment.

what is this development exactly thats adding an "amazing" 20,000 jobs. is it just an huge office park? the article is not very specific into what it is.

I suspect it's a lot of developer huff and puff. It mentioned that many of those jobs would be in the construction of the project. Now, I don't even think the Pyramids in Egypt required that many.

Probably, it counts a number of actual workers twice or more---200 to work on an office project, the same 200 to work on homebuilding would equal 400 jobs, that sort of thing.

Notice that this proposal expects a 20 year build out. I think that seems reasonable for a project of this immensity. If these guys can get their financing, I wouldn't be surprised if this project doesn't go forward. However, projects of this scale and timeframe rarely, if ever, proceed as originally planned.

Riverbend will have a 600 foot tall Ferris wheel called "Voyager Wheel" (largest structure in Mississippi) and 1,300 acres including an entertainment center complete with thrill rides, a water park, three hotels, retail outlets, a golf course and almost 1,200 home sites in phase one of this project.

Don't forget the Myriad, only a few miles down the road, will also include the "Mississippi Eye" Ferris wheel (largest in the world) and a 5 acre water park. How many water and amusement/thrill parks can metro Memphis sustain? Anyway, Mississippi is doing some amazing things. First the 1.6 billion dollar Myriad resort and then the 2.7 billion Riverbend. And the best thing is, they're only a few miles apart!!!
