when are the renovations for the book-cadillac and the ft. shelby hotels supposed to begin?

I dont think a date is set for either.

The Book-Cadillac deal has not closed yet, which means things could still fall through. The closing date is in late December, so if all goes as planned we could see construction by the first of the year.

The Fort-Shelby will supposedly start construction in January. I would not be surprised to see delays though.

I remember the FS was one of those "get done before the Superbowl projects." Looks like they got a month to do it
