Diosynth Biotechnologies is adding 89K-square foot expansion with 145 more jobs at its Wake County site by 2024. This is distinct from $2B plant being built in Holly Springs by the pharma/therapeutics company controlled by Japanese & Danish firms.

More on what I mentioned above from the Triangle Biz Journal

""Fujifilm Diosynth Biotechnologies continues to expand its presence in the Triangle.  After starting construction on its $2 billion manufacturing facility in Holly Springs last year, the pharmaceutical giant announced Wednesday it's expanding its footprint in Morrisville.  The Japan-based company, which operates as a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) with its U.S. headquarters in Morrisville, is adding 89,000-square-feet of lab space to its BioProcess Innovation Center off Davis Drive. The company opened the 62,000-square-foot center in 2016 to support its clients with process invention, process design and development and product characterization.""

Alexandria continues their RTP buying extravaganza. $80MM for a group of buildings at 104 TW Alexander. Seller paid only $20.5MM in December 2020. 70k square feet of existing space and room for up to 1MM square feet of additional development. Guessing based on the aggressive purchase price that they do indeed plan to develop a significant amount of additional space on the site.

From the article: Alexandria Real Estate Executive Chairman and founder Joel Marcus said the company, based in Pasadena, California, plans to “bring several of our over 800 innovative client tenants and create a vibrant and updated mini campus for life science and clean energy.

California based biotech company chooses RTP for expansion.

""A California biosciences company is coming to the Triangle after closing a $68 million funding round.  San Francisco-based Brightseed, has developed an artificial intelligence-powered platform called Forager to discover bioactive compounds in nature and understand the impact they have on human health. Natural bioactive compounds are common in food and medicine, but only a small number have been identified. Brightseed aims to change this. The company will open a 12,500-square-foot facility that will support ingredient sales, manufacturing, quality assurance and medical and regulatory affairs. The space off Davis Drive will also include a small discovery lab.""

Raleigh Durham is 6th largest cluster of bio tech and bio pharma jobs.  (and the top 5 are MUCH larger metro areas)

It is truly remarkable.  Bio-agriculture as well.  All the rural areas surrounding the Triangle Core should be aware...there's a place for farms in this dynamic.

Downtown has been inching over the freeway in earnest for a while now. Downtown Durham just has so much momentum moving in every direction. Never imagined Durham surpassing WS and Greensboro 30 years ago.  Even though most of RTP is in Durham County, it has always felt more Raleigh centric to me and nationally as well IMHO. In the last 10 years though with labspace in downtown expanding there is much more synergy with The Park. Now Durham as city has a name of its own outside of the Triangle or RDU.

That is freakin GROOVY man, I love this announcement. I've been waiting for a major development on the opposite side of 147, I really hope this spurs additional activity with a few high rises! Seriously been wanting an area of the metro where you can drive on a highway with high rises on both sides of you. North Hills and downtown Durham are the only spots where that's really super viable near term, and I'm thinking this is a great jump start. I also work on biotech so it's exciting to see so much lab space being opened up. This region is becoming a true life sciences hub- it's easily the cheapest of all the other life sci metros like Boston, NY, San Fran, San Diego, etc
