Welcome to the area! I am also of Wisconsin decent (meaning my dad is from Sheboygan...ended up here because of Barksdale). I cannot think of any big events, but there is always something going on. The Fair is in town; the Boardwalk and Youree Drive are popular; I've never been to the Funny Bone, but I hear it is good. BTW there is nothing in Monroe, I just got out of that hole! I think Ruston is on it's own. Also my wife just graduated from Tech in May. Again, welcome.

I forget all about the Funny Bone!! That place is awesome, if you can handle all the smoke. I just deal with it because I love a good comedy show.

Here's their website: Shreveport Funny Bone

It looks like their schedule hasn't been set for that weekend yet, but they always have someone on Saturday nights. You just can't go wrong with the Funny Bone. I often wish they'd relocate to the Boardwalk, though, so that I'm not as concerned about them closing down due to their lacking surroundings.

Pauly Shore will be there on the 20th of this month, and I've seen some big stars there as well. I've seen Ron White, Brett Butler, Bobcat Goldthwaite, and some others I can't even remember. That is one cool place. One evening when the District was still a pretty busy place, I ran into Louie Anderson down there. I didn't see him perform, but I ran into him walking down the corridor leading to the Funny Bone.

No problem, but you are right. That is what I was thinking of. My bad!

I guess I am good for something afterall. I remember Garfield's, but have no idea if there was a restaurant in there before that. Fridays had numerous locations throughout this region before finally closing down. Off the top of my head I can name two that I know of: downtown, where Blind Tiger is now, and Shreve City.

thanks for the replies, sheboygan ey? yah..dats a good lil ole city up dare'... anyways monroe: Yeah, looks as though they forgot what a downtown is used for. Its almost as though we could just steal some of there classic buildings and add density to shreveport and no one would notice. Enough about Funroe; state fair, concerts, boardwalk, ect... sounds like my kind of city! Milwaukee has a nice boardwalk but its quite under utilized by the people. It lacks retail, but has a few places to dine. I loved the boardwalk because it had 4 20-40 story towers right along the edge of the river along with tons of row houses and apartments just recently developed(condo boom). If it were not for huge lake michigan and all its lakeshore parks, i'd imagine our river would take on a more recreational atmosphere as does Shreveport/ BC. The park is great along the Red River on the Sport side. Its a great place to ponder on the urban core of the city. When i visited in March for the first time, people were everywhere walking the city...it felt great. I would never think Shreveport had a more urban feel than dallas. I visited Dallas in middle of the summer, NO ONE was downtown! I was waiting for tumbleweed to fly by. It was pathetic!

I have been reading about the new convention center in Shreveport, how has that done for the city? I have heard Shreveport's economy is doing well as of late...but what southern city isn't? Thanks for the infill on next saturday, i will walk around the city some more to get a better feel next week...im excited. I havent seen a skyline since Atlanta in early september...other than the shreveport drive by the other day

this link for some scattered milwaukee pictures...the skyline is so weird..its on a hill so you can never really get all the equivilent sizes of the buildings...its similar to the placement of sh/bc's random casino buildings of the skyline.(i understand the whole gambling thing on the river: neat idea)

 You have no idea how many times I've run straight to this board and other cities' boards here on UP to post something cool, only to find that someone beat me to it. Happens all the time!

I've been saying for a while that I didn't know why Friday's left this state altogether, and it had been mentioned by others that there was probably a franchisee for all of Louisiana who didn't do well. And I believe that is a very big possibility. But regardless, we're getting them back and I'm excited about that!

I sure hope so, that would be awesome!

I didn't mention it but when I was on Friday's web site I noticed that the only 2 states with out a Friday's are Louisiana and Montana. Alaska even had one!

Any more predicitions Swami???

I'm tapped out, sorry. I would have guessed Kohl's or Macy's if I didn't know Kohl's was already planned for that center. There will likely be 2-4 other "box" stores in the center and then a few restaurants. There once was a site plan I think I'd posted on here. It wasn't labeled, but it showed the layout. I'll try to find it.

Here is that article in the Shreveport Times about Gimme Sum. It gives a history of the riff between the company owner and the franchisees.

http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.d...010/0/OPINION03

Oh yeah, I remember that article. I'd forgotten all about that!

I hope it gets resolved, but if not, I hope someone gets ahold of it and puts a Pei Wei in there. :D

Does anyone know if Diamond Jack's actually plan to install permanent signs or are they planning to keep the trashy vinyl signage covering the old Isle of Capri signs? I would love to know, because they sure are trashing up the place. I have not been inside but I hope they are doing something there since they seem to be ruining a good thing.

That sounds really good to me! Who needs Gimme Sum.

Man, we think alike. I posted a while back how funky I think the name Diamond Jacks is and how bad their shrouded signs look. It's time to replace them... PROVE you're not a trashy casino and spend some money for crying out loud! You have to SPEND money to MAKE money. I'm really not a gambler, but if I were I wouldn't even WANT to go to that casino the way they have it looking right now.

I hope I don't offend anyone with this analogy, but it's just like the hillbilly family winning the lottery and then buying a pre-owned mansion and then trashes it because he doesn't maintain it!! You can take the hillbilly out of the trailer park, but you can't take the trailer park out of the hillbilly!

I take it you weren't offended. NOT that I thought you would be... afterall you live on Stockwell Road so I know your house cost at least $20,000 more than mine!

Hey, check this out. You've only been a member on UP for 12 hours and you've already got 24 posts. So for the past 24 hours you're in the top half of the 'Today's Top 10 Posters' list. Keep it up, man!!

No, not offended at all!

I thought that I have been on here too long. Look at you! Quite the busy bee!

On another subject. I think I recall you are a fan of Arlena Acree. Jerry Jones said that if he becomes mayor he will eliminate her job. What do you think of that?

I'm not so much a fan of her but of what she does.

To be honest, I'd rather he keep that position open and appoint me. :D

Oh and my post count... that's nothing. NCB, Mith242, and myself have been known to run that number up around 100 on some nights, when there's a lot to talk about all over UP.

So, how do you think the city will fare if they do not have that position?

Then I assume that it will be ran up on Monday considering the coming announcements.

I really don't know. It seems someone needs to be "in charge" of economic development, to serve as a medium between the city and these businesses. Will it be the mayor's job? If so, I'd love to see how Jerry works out with it. If it works fine, then by all means eliminate the position altogether; but if it doesn't, hire ME!

Maybe you should call up Jerry and apply! You could always reference him to you body of work on UP!

Actually if I referenced him to what I've said on Urban Planet, as Mayor he'd probably push to allow less public access to certain things. ;)

Luckily he would not have that power as mayor.

I would like to add something good, but right now I am sooo blank. I really need to go to bed. I have to go to Monroe tomorrow. Then I have to come back to make Disney on Ice at 7. You know I have noticed that Centurytel has been luring some pretty good acts recently. It seemed they had a lull for a while. I am contemplating going to see the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I went to Rascal Flatts last week and tomorrow will be Disney on Ice. I almost want to see Def Leopard and Journey, but I've got kids and Christmas is coming. I am also thinking about taking my daughter to see the Nutcracker at The Strand. I really wanted to go to Branson with some friends in December but I don't think that is going to happen. My wife also wants to go to So Cal and Disneyland in January. We just got back from Albuquerque last week! It's getting crazy. Ok, now I am just rambling. Sorry.

Great. Just what we need, another steakhouse. I know we do not have one in SBC, but it's something I could live without. There is one in W Monroe, and I ate there when I lived there, but again not something I missed at all. I just want something new and different!
