SBC,

The new floor on the Willis-Knighton South hospital is going to be the new Neonatal Center.

I believe it is going to have 40+ new beds, just for delivery of babies.

If you stop in front of the building you will get to see how it shall look when it is complete.

Just thought you would want to know.

Mudbugger

Thanks for that info, man! I honestly thought they were adding more than 1 floor, but any expansion is great news! I'm guessing it's a sign with a rendering you're talking about? I'll have to stop and look some time!

Isle of Capri Casino officially became 'Diamond Jack's' today.

I saw their billboard at I-49/I-20 this afternoon, and at that point I realized the name change was official. :( Good bye, Isle of Capri! I always liked that name and the theme. I'm tired of this "old west" theme our casinos are all taking on now.

Shreveport ,boy I wish I had pics of all the new subdivisions

Gotta put St. Charles Place on that list. It's not too shabby, either.

Hey here is the chicken and the egg story. Where do all these people work to afford the brand new homes in the SBC area. Maybe, Shreveport is doing a lot better than most people think

You certainly asked in the right forum. ;)

You're more than welcome to view the following two galleries I have put together which contain some of my photos of ongoing residential, commercial, and infrastructure construction in this area:

Most people I've spoken to from other regions realize Shreveport is doing well. The people living in these neighborhoods range from casino employees to casino executives, to people in the movie industry (Kevin Costner recently relocated from Southern Trace in south Shreveport, to Bossier City,) to doctors, lawyers, bankers, and other professional people.

Does anyone have any pics of the old Southern homes between Line Ave , Fairfield, St Vincent and Gilbert

Any pic on new subs overlooking Cross Lake or the lake in Benton.

One of the most cosmopolitian pics I ever remember is drivng down Line Ave toward downtown and going over the hill to see a beautiful scene of downtown Shreveport. Does anyone have a pic of that.

What impressed the celebrities about SBC the most

I personally don't have any photos from that area, but I could always get out and take some. You know I wouldn't be opposed to doing that. ;) Maybe someone else posting here will have some, though!?

Anyway, Costner is the only celebrity I know of who is living here full-time. After shooting his first movie here, he fell in love with the area. He loves the Bass Pro Shop, he loves hunting off Hwy. 71 north of the city, and he loves the overall feel of the area. What he didn't love, however, was being bothered by his neighbors in Southern Trace. He said everyone wanted to stare at him as he worked out and such, and he's a very humble guy. SO he got with a local real estate agent and found a place in Bossier City. What sold him on Bossier City was the fact that he took a walk around a Bossier neighborhood and no one even looked twice at him. They might not have even recognized him, but to him it was very nice. Granted, this is the story I've heard from someone I know in real estate... how much of it is true, I don't know. But it's become common knowledge that he did buy a house here because he does love it here.

By the way, I know the scene you're talking about... and while I don't have a shot of it (yet,) I drive that way often and love it myself. Ever since the casino hotels were built, that scene has gotten even nicer.

FYI: in this photo, the empty land behind the cars in the background is now being developed into the 600,000 sq. ft. Stirling Bossier Center, which will be home to a Target, Belk, multiplex movie theater, severeal banks and restaurants, Best Buy, etc.

Hey there Brian! As usual SBC is doing it up big. I can't wait to get back down there and do some sight seeing. I bet before long Shreveport will start building more high rises.

I feel like that's inevitable also. Although a real highrise "boom" may not happen until the new interstates come online.

^Hopefully! :)

Okay guys, here's something new. I haven't made the trip over to east Texas in a while, but I found out that there are billboards on I-20 in west Shreveport advertising a new, large attraction. So this evening on my way home, I decided to stop off on I-20 and drive out toward the GM plant on I-20 until I found the billboards. And there they were. ;)

They read:

"Coming Soon!

Gators and Friends

Alligator Park and Exotic Zoo!"

And then it links to this site: http://www.gatorsandfriends.com/ which at this point doesn't seem to exist. You'd think they would have their website up and running before they started announcing it, but oh well.

Anyway, it looks like this development will be just west of Greenwood, not far from the Louisiana/Texas line. Now it just has to be completed so I can go check it out!!! :D

Wow, that is new!! And exciting! Maybe I can contribute to this... as usual my curiousity got the best of me and I googled "Gators and Friends" in Shreveport. I didn't find much, but maybe we can investigate from this:

http://shreveport-bossier.org/coupons/attractions.pdf

It's PDF file.....on the 4th page of these attractions coupons, there are two coupons for Gators & Friends, L.L.C., the phone numbers listed are 318.938.1199 and 877.938.1199. It also shows the location as Greenwood. I have to run to the gym now, but when I get back I want a full report!!! :D

EDIT: This is strange. I just looked back at the coupons and noticed they expire in October of this year. Huh?? How can that be?

Awesome find!! I was Googling "gators and friends" but not with Shreveport in the query.

I wonder if they were originally supposed to open sooner... you know... for the October date to be there and all!?

I know the billboards have supposedly been up just less than a month.

Anyway, I can't find anything else, and I'm currently scouring the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau's website... Weird.

It's about time we got a zoo, so maybe this one will actually rate! The billboard showed a zebra, so from the looks of it, it seems like they have big plans.

Do you guys think it could be a full-fledged zoo? I'm a little skeptical with the name "Gators and Friends".... seems like it would be the Shreveport Zoo, or something along those lines. Hmmmmm.... it's hard to say.

Did anyone call those phones #s? Maybe it would give us a clue if we call.

Also, I'm surprised there hasn't been anything about this in the Times. The whole thing is bizarre to me... especially since they're already to the point where they're paying for major advertising.

I thought about calling, but I figured I'd try during more business-like hours. That way there's a better chance of catching someone if they're answering the phones

As for the zoo part, I don't know. It says "alligator park and exotic zoo" and the sign shows a zebra... so I'd at least expect a zebra!

The gator park down in Natchitoches has goats and emus, so I'd hope this one would have more than that if they're calling it "exotic." Either way, anything's better than what we have. Though we do have Chimp Haven which is all chimps, and the Yogi and Friends Exotic Cat Sanctuary which has lions, tigers, and other wild cats.

Thanks for following up on that Brian. Did she say whether it's going to be an "exotic zoo".

I didn't ask. While she was very nice, I couldn't help but get the vibe that I was putting her out. But then again, she's probably wondering where I got the phone number. I did tell her that the website wasn't working, and she said her sister was supposed to be working on that.

To be honest I didn't get a great overall feel from this phone call, so I guess rather than prejudge, I'd better just wait to see the finished product. I'd hate to write it off too soon.

^About the gator farm/zoo: I called the number today and spoke to a woman. She said they're still 2 or 3 weeks away from opening. I'll keep you posted. ;)

That's great! Then there'll be a destination to attract even more people to the S/BC area, not to mention more money in the economy.
