Approximately 56,000 live within the very small city limits of Greenville; however, there are over 360,000 residents in Greenville County, so the city proper's population is somewhat misleading.

Coming from the Hartford area, I can understand those numbers really well.

We have a "city limits" population of about 121,000 and a county population of about 810,000. If you mapped out our metro area to the size of a comparable city like Charlotte, we are between 1.4 and 1.7 million depending on who's counting.

Doesn't look like - Hartford: Population 121,000 does it?

Sometimes it's a numbers game. Ask Jacksonville.

BTW, very nice pictures of Greenville. I used to live in Charlotte and could not stand the congestion or the 2 hour drive to foothills. If I knew about Greenville, I might have went there instead! Nice city.

More nice pics RestedTraveler, very nice color from the sunset/sunrise. The pics you picked out Ronald actually remind me sf some buildings that are being built in Rogers, Arkansas in the northern part area of the metro I live in. I wonder if they were designed by the same people.

Greenville, South Carolina is very much a fusion of the old and the new. The photos that you selected are of one particular building that is part of a 9-building development called "RiverPlace" along the South Bank of the Reedy River in Greenville's West End. Most of the buildings in this development are very modern.

You will find that many cities in the United States have modern buildings beginning to appear; however, they're usually low-rise office buildings in master planned office parks on the outskirts of the cities...at least that's been my experience having lived in Orlando, Florida and Greenville, South Carolina and having visited Colorado Springs and Denver, Colorado often. For example, I look no further than the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research being developed along I-85 in Greenville. Currently, BMW's Information Technology Research Center (BMW ITRC) is complete with more buildings on the way, most of the same type of architecture.

The new West End Ballpark, home of the Greenville Drive, Single-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox:

Edit: In a refreshing breakaway from the "norm" in professional sports, the team is financing the construction of this ballpark. The City of Greenville is chipping in infrastructure and landscaping improvements which had already been slated for this area. Also, the Field House at West End, a mixed-use project providing office, retail, and residential units can be seen over the 30' Tall Left Field "Greenville Monster" Wall.
