Your Favorite US City Skyline

I like New York, Chicago, LA, and Seattle. I liked New York a lot better with the Trade Centers though. :(

Chicago's looks massive when viewed from the west or from out in the lake.

I like LA's and Seattle's because they're impressive skylines AND they have a mountain backdrop. LA has the added bonus of palm trees which can add to the skyline at night when you see the rows of palm tree silhouettes against the lights of the city.

Wow, I never knew Austin had such a great skyline...

Hartford

I'm a Boston native living in Durham, NC, so I've made the drive between the two places several times. I can never choose which is my favorite skyline. Naturally NYC has the most impressive, but I always slow down to enjoy views of Baltimore, Richmond, and New Haven.

PIttsburgh does have an impressive skyline. I'm quite fond of it. It's a lot like Minneapolis in some respects... better than people expect, but constantly plagued by moderating effects like "for a city of its size"... when in fact they rank pretty high nationally... for a city of its size. :):):)

For sentimental reasons, and out of bias, I can't but help put up some better photos of Detroit, MI. The views from the river are probably the least flattering:

It's not known for being a "pretty" skyline, but it has so much texture and shape that that more than makes up for the lack of refinement or height, IMO.

Not a single vote for Providence? :(

Well, let me be the first then.

As for cities that I don't call home, I agree that Minneapolis is very nice. I'm also partial to Houston and Charlotte -- Charlotte mostly because of their Bank of America tower, which is spectacular by day and even better at night.

I think by 2008-09, Providence will be much more favorable... and I'm not even in on this big secret from the other night's meeting! hoping for another 400'-600' tower :)

Anyways, my favorite skyline is Chicago right now. I love the fordham spire and think it'll be a great addition. Maybe i'll go back to liking NYC the best when the WTC is completely finished with construction.

I don't want to sound sick, but I think NYC looks better sans the Twin Towers. They were not good looking buildings in the least.

Not sick at all. They were iconic when they were built, and even more so when they were destroyed, but no matter how you cut it they were architecturally uninspiring (to put it politely).

As for some of the other votes in this thread, I hope nobody takes this the wrong way, but I think Detroit's skyline is ruined by GM Renaissance Center. And it's a pity too, because the central skyline is a very nice one. I love Comerica Tower, and the Penobscot Bldg is a longtime favorite -- probably in my personal top 5. I wish the antenna tower on its top were more ornamental, though. <_<

I ought to put in a vote for Hartford, too. Hartford also has a nice skyline, and it's only getting better.

My favorite US skyline would be Chicago. It looks so big yet graceful against the water and it also has such a great array of buildings. My second fav would be Seattle and then Atlanta. A lot of people like New York, but its to much and over does it for me.
