Lawrence Kansas (1 of 2): The University of Kansas

First we will start with the KU campus, and then in a day or five I'll get around to posting my downtown Lawrence photos.

Lawrence is the largest city (80,000 pop) in Douglas County KS, and Douglas County was one of only two blue counties in Kansas in the last presidential election. KU has a student population of over 29,000.

To begin -- the drive from Kansas City to Lawrence, westbound on K-10 with the sunrise at my back:

And to the campus:

Below is an illlustration of the dehumanizing horrors of modernist architecture. Odd that this building serves as an unofficial lunchtime and afternoon gathering place for many:

The office of Study Abroad resides in this building seen below, so I can only assume this building is where my frantic email was read that I wrote from Spain in February of 2004 inquiring about flying home three months early and getting a partial refund. They wouldn't give me a refund, so I wound up staying:

The Natural History Museum below -- quite amusing that actual evidence for evolution can be found therein -- apparently the public school board has never visited:

AD 1993 -- as if anyone would mistake a building in Kansas for being from nearly 2000 years before Christendom:

Great pics. Thanks for sharing them with us!

I love American Universities and their campusses. I think it's a great set-up.

Here students only go to the University to follow class and sometimes to study, they live in small appartments in the (usually inner-) city.

I would have loved to go study in the US. It's my biggest dream after visiting Washington this past summer (I actually didn't want to leave the US).

But it would have costed me about $ 25,000 per year, and here in Holland I pay just $2000 a year. So it's like I have no choice anyway.

BTW- I loved fraternity parties (my cousin studied @ U of W and showed me one)
