French Quarter, Post-Katrina

Recommended Posts

Well, the crown jewel and the most famous part of New Orleans, was not heavily damaged by the floodwaters from Katrina, due to the fact that it is one of the highest elevated parts of the city.

Here are some pics showing how life is quickly returning to the Quarter. :D

It's good to see that the French Quarter escaped relatively unscathed. What happened to the original lettering on the entrance canopy of the Monteleone?

^I think that there was some wind damage to original lettering, and that it is being replaced.

Can't believe how much history there is in the French Quarter. This part of New Orleans could easily be mistaken for a southern-European city. Nice pictures.

^That has become a hot topic now, mostly with the residents of the heavily flooded areas. People are saying that they heard explosions over and over again, and then the water started gushing in. These "explosions" were most likely the sounds of a barge that had been carried up the Mississippi River by the storm surge, crashing over and over again into the levee, and eventually causing the levee the crack, and then force of the water breached it completely.
