IKEA Plans 10 Stores in Middle East

IKEA announced that they will be planning 10 new stores in the Middle East in the Future. IKEA currently operates five stores in the Middle East -one in Kuwait City, two in the UAE (Dubai and Abu Dhabi) and two in Saudi Arabia (Riyadh and Jeddah) where it is set to add a third branch.

One store will be in Dammam, and should be open by 2007.

I do happen to know that IKEA doesn't have a presence in Qatar. But I've heard that they have plans to move into the Gulf state with its UAE partner.

IKEA officially opened its new Dubai store last Wednesday. At roughly 25,000 square metres, the DFC branch is four times bigger than the company

Some more IKEA news in the Middle East.

IKEA, is planning to open its new showroom-sprite-warehouse complex in Al-Rai soon. Speaking at a press conference organized at the construction site by IKEA Kuwait . In Kuwait, IKEA opened its first showroom in Shuwaikh in 1984 and has since garnered 15 per cent of market share in furniture, home accessories and furnishings segment.

1 million customers will visit the new showroom annually as against the present 800,000. The new showroom covers an area of 21,000 square meters compared to 5,100 square meters of the present showroom. The complex also boasts of a play space for kids. The showroom will also feature set living rooms, set bedrooms, set kitchen, etc. which are all real life rooms with all the furniture arranged.
