Kuwait Projects, Developments, and Updates

Another country that is currently booming in the Mid-East is Kuwait. I've decided to devote a thread to this, although it will take some time.

This is a pretty nice building being constructed in the city of Salmiya. The building is going to be the Headquarters building for Olympic Council Of Asia.

It really is a quite modern building.

If I'm looking at it right the buildings look like they will have an angular dented style to them. Sorta interesting.

Yeah, with a garden in the middle.

It's quite interesting. Beats most modern architecture being built in the states.

This is an article read in New Scientist.com

"Blueprints for a kilometre-tall skyscraper have been drawn up by UK architects, who hope to see the record-breaking structure commissioned in Kuwait.

At 1001 metres, the enormous tower would be almost twice the height of the world's tallest building today, the Taipei 101 in Taiwan, which stands at 509 metres. The new building would also dwarf the Burj Dubai, a building under construction in Dubai that is expected to stand 700-800 metres tall once completed in 2008.

Architecture firm Eric Kuhne and Associates, based in London, UK, has drawn up plans for the skyscraper. Although the designs have yet to be made public, the company is reported to be in talks with the Kuwaiti government about construction.

Representatives told the Architects' Journal that the Kuwaiti government is considering commissioning the building for a city called Madinat al-Hareer, or the "City of Silk". The skyscraper could house 7000 people, but would cost an estimated

A new sports stadium will be coming to Kuwait City. The state-of-the-art stadium will have an installed seating capacity of 60,000 fans.

Construction plans call for building what is claimed to be one of the finest stadiums in the Middle East where all the fans will have their own rotating plastic seat, over an area of 400,000 square meters. ‏

‏Construction is due to be completed by October 2006.‏ ‏The stadium is to be the heart of an entire sports city that includes ‏ ‏multi-purpose courts and halls as well as an Olympic pools complex and parking ‏‏for over 6500.‏

The 10-gate facility is designed like a traditional Kuwaiti Boum from lateral view. As to top view, the design resembles a horse saddle. ‏ ‏The design thus represents something from both the marine and desert ‏

‏environment. Inside the stadium, there are two big display screens.‏

No pics yet, but I bet Malec can find some. :D

Great looking towers!

My favorite has to be ADNREC Tower.

^Yeah that's a pretty cool looking one. I think it's primarily office space.

My favorite is the super block.

Here's a tower that's been underconstruction for a while.

The Al Dhow Tower has been under construction since 2004 and is suppose to be finished this year. I think it will be 34 Floors.

Al Demna Waterfront:

It will consist of two parcels of land in Salmiya, one on the land side, the other on the sea side. The development envisions a composition of five areas, each area to provide for a different use and activity. These include: a Waterfront Park, Promenade and Beach; a Civic Plaza; a Summer Garden and retail Galleria; a Waterfront Crescent and Amusement Pier and a Marine Sports Center.
