New Years Eve

I was just discussing new years eve w/ some freinds and I thought I'd start a thread to showcase what's going on downtown. I know most places charge a pretty hefty cover. Here is what i've found so far:

Mcfaddens [$25.00 per person]: http://www.mcfaddensgrandrapids.com

The BOB [$30+ per person]: http://www.thebob.com/NYEINFO.htm (limited to 350 people, which is NICE.)

Amway [bar only from $78.00. accommodations+bar from $149 per couple]: http://www.amwaygrand.com/holiday_events.html

If I had an extra $300+ The Amway would be pretty sweet.

I see grnow.com has the low down on what's going on, but I'd like to see people discuss it here too :)

My hubby gigs there every New Years Eve in the Atrium Lounge. Just a little jazz combo, and it's fun. We try to get a room and bring lots of snacks and drinks and then when they break we all go there and party down, then at midnight we sneak out champagne down to the bar. :whistling: No one ever knows by that time of night and the waitresses are so busy....besides we manage to spend a bit during the evening. That's my secret... ;)

Is that the little lounge on the 14th(16th?) floor?

No. It's right across from the check in desk main floor. They usually always have this martini bar made entirely of ice right in front of the lounge. It's really neat, all lighted and stuff!

Oh yes.. they mention that on the web site. Sounds really cool :)

Yeah. We always have a good time. Lots of friends stop by. It's a long night for my guy but it's decent pay and tips, and he has fun too. Wish they'd comp a room for us. :shades: I think they did that one year and then quit. Dang it! <_<

I was going to take my girl for a walk downtown. I want to time it right so that we turn a corner at the exact moment. I'm going to grab her and kiss her. Haha, probably not, I'll be home drinking RC and watching reruns of Family Guy or PJ Projects... ahhh GR should do a fireworks celebration downtown, shoot fireworks off the courthouse or something.

See my other NYEve post about First Night-Jubilee-New Year's Eve Fest events. No reason we can't have one here.

This is not downtown, and if I weren't in Port Huron at their First Night gig I'd be here:

Grand River Folk Arts Society "Closed for the Holidays." At Grace Bible College. Square and line dancing, "bawdy barroom ballads," and jam until dawn's early light. $10/person, kids >12 free. 363-6884.
