Does anyone know what is going up across from the Publix shopping Center (just south of Furman) on Poinsett Highway? A lot of clearing is going on currently.

Spinx from what I hear. It was rumored at one time for a power shopping center to include Super Target but this was several years ago. I believe CAPLLC is the developer.

That's a pretty big site for just a gas station. It looks like there's some residential development going on just a little bit south of that site. I'm wondering if there's some connection between the two areas. I'd love to see something better than a Spinx. There's no pressing need for a gas station right there and Poinsett Highway is in serious need of attractive development. If done right, that spot could develop into a node around which some semblance of urbanism might grow over time.

The old industrial building at Poinsett Highway and Hammett Street has apparently sold.

In The Greenville News today the article about the West End mentions that the Greenville County Redeveloment Authority has an agreement with state environmental regulators to clean up this four buildings, four-acre complex. They hope to have a light manufacturing or commercial user eventually.

I could be wrong, but I think CAP, LLC has long since abandoned any plans they had for that large tract across from Publix...it sure would have been nice to see all of the rumored stores materialize there, though...the plans back then "hinted" at Target (not SuperTarget), Circuit City, and Whole Foods Market...I don't think the demographics in that area would have supported it though.
