I didn't realize how urban GR looked!!

Charlotte has an ice skating rink downtown that is similar to that one... and that horse-drawn carriage is beautiful... and the sidewalks and architecture of the buildings!

These pictures were the first I've ever seen of GR... what a first impression... :D

(but I've always loved Michigan)

Wow I never thought Grand Rapids would look so beautiful. Sorry for showing my ignorance but isn't Grand Rapids known for its Botantical Gardens. I remember as a child watching a religious show called "Day of Discovery!" which if my pickeled brain is correct was shot in the GR Botantical Gardens.

The shots of the hotel or whatever look really elegant

The hotel, The Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, (pics 3-6) is (I think) the only 4-star hotel in the state, and it also houses the only 5-Diamond restaurant in the state, called The 1913 Room. A Fancy-schmancy place.

The Amway Grand Plaza is not the only four-diamond (aaa) hotel in the state. It is not among four-star (mobil) rankings. Heres a complete list:

Four Star (mobil):

Townsend Hotel - Birmingham

Four Diamond (aaa):

Townsend Hotel - Birmingham

Radisson Hotel Detroit-Bloomfield Hills - Bloomfield Hills

Hyatt Regency Dearborn

The Dearborn Inn

The Ritz-Carlton - Dearborn

Omni Detroit River Place

The Atheneum Suite - Detroit

Amway Grand Plaza - Grand Rapids

Radisson Plaza - Kalamazoo

Grand Hotel - Mackinac Island

Soaring Eagle Casino - Mt. Pleasant

Westin Detroit Airport - Romulus

Westin Southfield - Southfield

But you are right on the restaurant info.

We do have the Meijer Botanical Gardens, but it was just built 6 or 7 years ago. I didn't know they used the gardens in a TV show

Thanks for the compliments. ;)

GRDadof3, I have a hobby of graphically modeling buildings and used to live in Grand Rapids. Do you have some nice pictures of the Amway Grand Plaza and Hotel (Pantlind) from all sides. Most of the ones I find on the internet are from the Grand River side. Most of my work has been of New York buildings, but I decided to work on something a little closer to home. I checked out you Flickr pics...very nice. I thought of asking my parents, but I don't think they would be able to capture it like you. Again, this is a hobby...not for profit. If you think you can help, send me an e-mail [email protected].

If you click on GRDadof3, and then scroll down to Signature, you can access more of his GR photos on flikr. But he probably has even more than that. PS We'd have never known you used to live in GR just from your name. :silly:

The singers were from Grand Rapids, but they went to Florida to tape the show.
