I don't think we should erect a stautue to anyone who killed the native americans to take their land even though I am living there.

I think you forget that the Indians are the ones that broke the treaty and crossed the line over in to Spartanburg County and Killed his family. We do have a street named after him. Wade Hampton Blvd. and a historical market at the site of his home near Wade Hampton Blvds' intersection with the Verne Smith Parkway.

And of course Wade Hampton High School, which correct me if I'm wrong, but kids there still have to write a report on one of the Hamptons before they graduate.

...and for people who haven't seen the rendering of the new statue downtown yet: http://www.greenvilleonline.com/apps/pbcs....319/1004/NEWS01

My gosh, get that thing away from the front of the modernistic Greenville News building. The statue is fine, but now that I see a rendering of how it doesn't fit in to the surroundings, it just is not going to fit in there.

Oh, and here is the fun part about the statue that will be part of the entrance way to the Greenville News, in the article that appeared in the Greenville News, check out this quote:

He was credited with American victories in Cowpens and Guilford Courthouse in North Carolina.

Greene was in Charlotte when Cowpens was fought, Daniel Morgan won that battle, and Greene lost the battle of Guilford Courthouse to Lord Cornwallis near present day Greensboro, NC.

And we're sure we want to intrust Greene's legacy to folks who can't get his life story right? sigh...

If you want to learn more about Greene, the best recent biography is Washington's General : Nathanael Greene and the Triumph of the American Revolution http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/080508005...5Fencoding=UTF8

Perhaps, but you can't blame them for trying to get their land back. Wouldn't we (americans) do the same if a bunch of people came from another counry and took our lands?

Is anyone optimistic that the Nathaniel Greene statue will look better than originally proposed? I haven't really seen renderings or photos, but you guys seemed to think that it would look out of place there. Anyone had a change of heart yet?

The post above by gsupstate says that the unveiling is July 27...
