Great to hear the GSO is getting some more flights. Does anyone know what passenger figures and est. look like for this year compared to the last few years? Is it looking to increase any? Also how is the Fedex hub coming along? I haven't heard a thing about it in so long. I can't wait for their operations to start up so I can take some trips out to GSO.

A good article about PTI's attempt to lure Skybus to the Triad:

http://triad.bizjournals.com/triad/stories...0169&page=1

It sounds like Greensboro is at the top of Skybus' list to become a focus-city, which is very good in my book. I'm a little baffled by the way their routes work, but you can't beat the cost of a ticket.

looks like the airport authority will discuss offering incentives for airline to provide non-stop flights to cities currently not served from the airport. Coincidently this comes at a time when "Skybus Airlines is considering whether to make Piedmont Triad International Airport one of its "focus cities" — a move that would create a base of planes flying nonstop from PTI."

I am really impressed that at least twice now there has been solid cooperation between all 3 Triad cities in bringing a lucrative company to the region, this time even including private backers. It is of course common sense as it benefits the whole region, but in today's climate cities/politicians do not generally think in that kind of way. Regarding the competition from Richmond, I am a little perplexed on that one, any obvious or underlying reasons it might be able to swing Skybus away? Based on the biggest issues that I can think of from a [dispassionate] business standpoint the Triad should appear the more lucrative choice, it's one negative being the proximity of RDU and CLT, but that can't really be a negative or else why would Skybus have even considered PTI at all?

It looks like Greensboro beat out out Richmond. a spokesman for skybus gave word that governor Easley will be making a MAJOR announcement today at PTI.

That would mean there would be ALOT more direct flights to other cities including out west. Just think what that would do for Greensboro attracting conventions. It helps High Point's furniture market too. So this is not just good news for Greensboro, its good news for the whole Triad. The Skybus hub would add more than 1 million additional passengers a year through PTI's gates.

This news broke in Richmond today:

Skybus looks at Richmond and Triad as potential "focus" cities

It will be interesting to see what the outcome is at the end of the month!

That is strange, it seems the old adage about multiple direct sources for confirming news stories is a thing of the past. Or do you feel this response was a way of allowing RIC to save face?

Regarding major news, I don't think this is a done deal just yet as Skybus has not itself made any confirmations, it may yet decide Richmond (or somewhere else) is a better long term option..

Very cool for PTI... most of the non-stops were not a surprise...but the Skybus non-stop to Los Angeles (Burbank) was a nice surprise. Was not expecting that. Is this the first time that Greensboro will have a non-stop to Los Angeles?

apparently so since Greensboro is now a hub! thats great NEWS! direct connections to cities like that mean everything.

BTW ITS OFFICIAL!! SKYBUS PICKS GREENSBORO

Skybus will offer non-stop flights to these cities from Greensboro

There is already a direct flight from Greensboro to Columbus, OH.

Hartford, Conn

Boston

Daytona Beach, Fla

Los Angeles

Jacksonville, Fla

Fort Myers, Fla

Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Gulfport, Miss

Greensboro will become Skybus's 2nd U.S. hub

Now that Greensboro will have a direct flight to Los Angeles, I have a feeling people will be coming to Greensboro to get to LA instead of departing from RDU or Charlotte. It will be cheaper.

Hey, cityboi. PTI has at least one International non-stop flight in your list. Halifax (YHZ) is in Nova Scotia, CANADA.

Congratulations to all you Triad folks.

Richmond didn't know it was on the "short list" until you guys told us. No media in the Capital City reported it until The Winston Salem Alliance broke the story a couple of days ago, and even now it hasn't been confirmed locally.
