George Birt has proposed a master plan for the east side of the River Market area. The plan includes 1,200 residential units, retail including a downtown grocery store. The largest redevelopment would be that of the U.S. Cold Storage building into 250 lofts. "Besides the U.S. Cold Storage building renovation, the timetable calls for the construction of 284 residential units and 47,000 square feet of commercial space, including the grocery store, by 2007. The next phase would add 406 residential units and 57,000 square feet of commercial space between 2006 and 2009. The plan's final phase calls for adding 292 residential units and 76,500 square feet of commercial space between 2007 and 2010." -- KC Star
