Just for fun, I thought it would be cool to build my own skyline using ten skyscrapers from ten different southern cities. Remember you can only choose one building per city and they have to be already built so that leaves out Signature Nashville, Wachovia Charlotte, etc..

1. BOA - Atlanta -for sheer height

2. Bank One Center - Dallas - also very tall and unique.

3. Bank of America Center - Houston - unique

4. Hearst Tower - Charlotte - for design

5. Bellsouth - Nashville - unique

6. Aegon Tower - Louisville - gotta love that dome.

7. Modis - Jacksonville - so ugly yet so unique

8. Lincoln National Building - Greensboro, NC - a class old structure

9. Sterrick Building - Memphis - more old & facinating architecture

10. One Shell Square - New Orleans - got to have the straight lines as well as the shapes.

1. BOA-Atlanta

2. BOA-Charlotte(like a twin tower concept with BOA Atlanta together)

3. City Federal-B'ham

4. Reynolds building-Winston-Salem, I love old art deco style scrapers

5. Bellsouth-Nashville, it is unique looking

6. BOA- Jacksonville-I would probably put it on the end of the skyline opposite the other BOA towers

7. South Trust-Columbia I would put it in as a gateway building entering the center city

8. Three Wachovia-Chatlotte another unique scraper

9. Bank one center- Dallas

10. Peachtree Tower-Atlanta, a little variety

I like the new talls but I do prefer older art deco and pre-boom city scrapers though.

These are the skyscrapers that I would use.

1. Bank of America Plaza-Atlanta Great design, great height, looks great at night

2. Williams Tower-Houston One of my favorite buildings in the country

3. Bank of America Corporate Center-Charlotte Great design, nice height

4. Bank One Center-Dallas Nice height, nice design

5. Bellsouth Building-Nashville Very unique

6. Bank One Center-New Orleans Nice design, nice height, my favorite in New Orleans

7. Standard Life Building-Jackson Great old design

8. Aegon Tower Louisville I like the dome

9. AmSouth Plaza-Birmingham Very nice design

10. Amsouth Tower-Shreveport Not very tall, but the design looks very nice

The one building per city rule had to get me thinking ;)

If you can only have one per city, then I would use:

1. SunTrust Plaza (871') Atlanta; one of my favorite buildings in the south

2. Bank of America Corporate Center (871') Charlotte; a quality building

3. Texaco Heritage Plaza (762') Houston; I think it would be a nice compliment to SunTrust Plaza

4. Fountain Place (720') Dallas; my favorite highrise in the country

5. Bank One Center (645') New Orleans; has an interesting look

6. Bank of America Tower (617') Jacksonville; a classic skyscraper

7. Frost Bank Tower (515') Austin; my favorite new highrise (built since 2000)

8. Wachovia Center (460') Winston-Salem; another nice dome

9. SunTrust Center (441') Orlando; nice looking building

10. AmSouth-Harbert Plaza (437') Birmingham; great design

Yeah I didn't think about federal and state buildings...leave it to krazee to give an off angle look at things

Hey, good idea on the state capitals. I think Baton Rouge's Capitol building would look great.

I also notice Aegon Louisville getting some notice on here. It is like a gem that not too many people notice until they actually look at it.

Now what would be cool is if we could take all our choices and cut and paste them into a skyline together to see how they would look.

Does anyone know how to do this? I could try paint or photo editor maybe?

If we are adding State Capitol buildings, I would definately have to add Louisiana's.

When I get some ME time I will try. I think the hardest thing about this is getting pics of all the buildings at the same proportions. Some pics will zoomed some won't ya know....

I doubt many people will agree with my choices, but as an architect, the below buildings are what I feel are among the strongest highrises in the South. The one building per city rule leaves out a few good buildings in some of the cities listed, but at this point I could only come up with 9 buildings.

R.J. Reynolds Building - Winston-Salem

City Hall - Asheville

Nashville Life & Casualty - Nashville

Landmark Tower - Greenville, SC

Louisiana State Capitol - Baton Rouge

City Federal - Birmingham

Equitable Building - Atlanta

129 West Trade - Charlotte

Espirito Santo Plaza - Miami
