Vicksburg House to Receive New Life

A Victorian era house in Vicksburg which had been marked for demolition by the city will now be reassembled by its new owner, Tom Pharr. Pharr, who owns and operates the historic mansion Anchuca, persuaded fellow members od the architectural review board to allow a reconstruction of the house. the facade will be exact, but other features may not completely follow the original. Having known mr. Pharr in college at LSU, I have the assurance that he will do what is best for the house and the neighborhood. I'll see if I can get pictures of this project.

Riverwalk Casino to Open in the Fall

Yet another casino will be opening in Vicksburg this fall. The Riverwalk Casino and Hotel will have an 80 room hotel in a building of 5 stories. The rendering doesn't look horrible, but the design isn't terribly adventurous either. I'm not sure that another casino is exactly what Vicksburg needs, but the rendering looks better than I might have supposed it would.

Riverwalk Casino Opens Today

The Riverwalk Casino and its attendant hotel open today. When I first saw the picture in the article below, I thought the hotel was still under construction. More casinos for Vicksburg may not be a good thing. I'd like to see more diversification of the economy in Vicksburg.
