Definately... even sexier would be if they could somehow incorporate the historic look into the new design. I'd love to see something reminicent of the old there, yet modern. You've seen some of the historic-looking highrise courthouse buildings... something like that.

Here is the Historic Dade County Courthouse. Its a good example of a highrise that blends the old with the new. Sure this building is old now, but I can see the old looks of the Floridan hotel at ground level with the functionality of a modern highrise building above.

agreed, the way the seminole tribe hotel renderings seem to sit atop the old 2 story street scape...

Yeah... agreed... but in case they don't go with the historic... here's a possibility if they get to feelin funky.

I think this design would give the downtown a more symmetric look.

Its kinda sketchy... but at least its not a plain box.

good illistration of the impact it will have on density... good place for a nice statement. I like the way you mirror the Turlington's wild wedge design to balance the wierdness out some. plus, there not white!

The Floridan Tower and Hotel

Rendering Revealed!

It appears our newest Downtown Office building wearing the name Floridan will be 10 Stories Tall. Officially a highrise building. And I think it captures the corner very well. I was not aware that these renderings were in last Sunday's Tallahassee Democrat until my father told me. I rushed over to the nearest store to grab a copy before they were all gone. This was a great Christmas present for me, as its always a good sign when renderings appear this early in the game. More likely than not, these projects will move thru permitting sometime 1st quarter 2006 and we could be looking at construction sometime around summer or Fall. Great News for Tallahassee. She continues to impress me, and is shaping up to regain her place as the Pride of Florida.

That does really five the corner power... iw wish there was more of a castle tower on this corner of the building rather than the simple chimney with the floridian sign... 10 satisfies me just fine!

I see what you're saying... maybe if they topped it with a little crown, similar to the crown on top of the Florida League of Cities Building.

What will really put Downtown Tallahassee on the map is some nightlife. With a few nightclubs in the city center, that will draw everybody and their mama downtown.

More than night clubs, we need some of those jazzy restaurants where you can sit and listen to a performance while you eat, or if you choose get up and dance to the music. If you've ever seen bringing down the house, the club in that movie is a perfect example.

Seeing as how each of these projects will have a ground floor retail element, I'm excited about the new people that will be flocking into the downtown for some shopping. Think of all of the walking you've got to do to get from one retail shop to the next downtown currently. On top of there not being much to choose from, save a flower shop, card store, sandwitch shop, or one of the 3-4 bars downtown, you've got to walk for days between each to compare. I like the proximity of the projects, and I like the modern design, and I'm hopeful that the restaurants and shops chosen will be what we all want here in Tallahassee.

Ditto. Kind of like N.O.'s French Quarter, but without the strip joints. You can sit on a downtown bench at night listening to jazz, get your eat on at one of the restaurants or get a good workout by just walking all over the city center.

exactly... speaking of workout... I can't wait to see the new gyms open at Plazatower and Tallahassee Center condos.

They better have free weights, that's all I'm concerned about. Not those weight machines, but the free weights you find in your high school weight room.

The Floridan is such an awesome name. I can't wait to get a color rendering of it. The original was torn down a month before I was born in 1985, never got to lay eyes on it. Eagerly waiting the return. As nice as this project is, I hope it flies thru permitting.
