I'm officially in the best mood of my life. I just read on airliners.net that starting in Mar 07' Northwest Airlines will be offering non-stop service to Amsterdam using a 757-200 with winglets. This is the greatest thing since sliced bread!

OMG!! That's great news. I can't beleive it, real trans atlantic. Things are looking up, way up for CT this week.

We need to get more Europeon destinations added to Bradley's folder. I think the market potential is there for it. Hell I would gladly pay extra to fly out of Hartford instead of JFK when I go to Italy.

If any other new european routes open it will be only one of a very select few....Paris De Gaule, Frankfurt, or London Stansted....no other European destinations have NEARLY enough demand to sustain even a twice weekly flight. It's just not realistic. Amsterdam is a great realistic airport because of it's network to other european cities. PLUS, Rome is too far for a 757 to make non-stop, which is so far the only plane size needed for any european service.

I hope our state leaders recognize the potential of this growth and impliment LRT from Hartford to BDL. Quite a few of those airports ahead of us have some sort of rail or rapid transit connections...just think of the growth if we took the same steps.

how can you not see the entire post dedicated to new routes for Northwest 757's....it's an entire post dedicated to it and other new routes that will use the Northwest 757.

I think the poster ment Press Release articles from the AP or NW. Right now it is really just a rumor flying around on airliners.net, however that site is usually very well respected when it comes to breaking news before medio or the airline.

Amsterdam works well because it is a sky team hub. People on DL, CO and NW will be able to take the NW codeshare flight from BDL through AMS to 100's of locations throughout the world from AMS. BDL I asume will also see some connection traffic if this flight goes through. DL, NW, and CO might route some passengers through BDL so O&D won't be the entire flight.

This is great news. If Bradley were managed well, I could see us being a top 30 airport.

I don't know about MadVlad. I could potentially see Bradley being in the 14-18 million range in 15 years, but certainly not 25+. Not only would we need to extend the number of gates to atleast 60, but we would probably need to add a runway, which would most likely be parallel to 6/24. We don't have nearly the amount of space for either of those thing to happen. The airport can't grow East or South due to obvious reasons....and North and West are out of the question because there are houses already built. I suppose the state could buy the land needed for that kind of growth, but Suffield and East Granby would never allow it. Another thing that definitely stunts our potential growth is our location....NYC steals alot of Bradley's potential passengers....but by just having an airline take the supposed "chance" and offering direct service from Hartford to a European city is a definite step in the direction of Bradley becoming an even more important resource for the Greater Hartford area. Let's just hope that Hartford gives the right answer and shows the airline community that we can do it.

Secondly, the reason why Bradley isn't a "gateway to Europe" is because the airlines have already gotten comfortable with the bigger cities. Also, there's more to do in those cities....ex. A family sets up the airfare for theeir summer family vacation and opt to travel via NYC or Boston so that they can spend the day in the city and see the cites. No one wants to make a stop in Hartford to see any sites....not yet atleast, which is why I think that if Hartford continues on it's present course it will only be a matter of time before we see major positive changes at Bradley

Long range master plans at BDL actually include a parallel runway to 6-24 and to add 1,000-2,000 feet to 6-24. I forgot what the plans looked like, but the second runway was going to be north of the control tower, and the additional 1,000 to 2,000 feet would be added at the end of the runway where the saftey strip is currently. These master plans wouldn't be until around the year 2020-2025 so it is years away.
