This is a great christmas gift. Finally some more people are pushing for a new system. The only thing I don't like is that there is still a chance for just rapid bus. LIGHT RAIL ALL THE WAY!!!!! The second phase would be from Royal Oak to Pontiac. That is what it says on the SEMCOG Website. I want to see this get done because it will pave the way for a Michigan and Gratiot Line. Hopefully if they do this, it will take Michigan or some other road to the new Transit Center. You all do not need to remind me that this is Detroit. I am ready for this to fall through as well as the AA-Detroit Line falling through. It is just fun to get excited over this.

There was a person speaking about the rapid bus system to my urban planning class. Unfortunately, I slept in and didn't go. All I know is this project is more feasible in terms of cost and politics. Although I too rather see a light rail system. Possibly because there will be a stronger commitment to keep it running and improve areas along the routes once it is built. All you had to do to scrap a bus system is simply remove busses. But it's also easier to add more busses and extend RT networks to areas that really need it.

That's possible. It's usually difficult to introduce a mass transit system into a population that's not accustomed to using it in the first place. As I said, a RB system is more feasible at this time. Depending on how successful it is, there could soon be demand for something more extensive like light rail.

I'm a little worried about introducing rapid bus transit because I fear that many may use it, but figure that nothing else is needed, and be content with it. I know this may be outside of reality at the moment, but I'd much rather the area go straight to light rail instead. Plus, the argument for RB just isn't that compelling to me, and for that reason I don't think it's enough. This is one of the few cases where it seems that something is not necessarily better than nothing.
